wow..some of those high notes are really sounding very strained. I wish him the best, but this is not the Arnel I'm used to hearing. hmmm...

Y'all are very well aware of the fact that I don't care for this incarnation of the band, But I want it noted that I feel sorry for the guy. They're killin' his voice, like they did to Augeri's.

Arnel goes solo...I'll support him.

Ouch!! Wheel In The Sky and DSB sound HORRIBLE. His pitch is all over the place and totally misses some of the notes all together. Time to get back on youtube Neal.

This is what happens when you're constantly touring, you end up running the singer's voice into the ground

On my iPhone, can't listen to it ATM. But he was noticeably spotty in Evansville last week and the Crossroads event sucked. From what I heard, he still has the raw goods (mostly), just has to adapt his technique like Perry did.

Sounds like he's trying to compete with NS' guitar...the more he strains..the faster his voice is going to go..
Wonder if they havent figured that out yet...

Not bad at all. Detected some more pushing on high notes in WITS. Still best singer the band has had since Perry in his prime.

Wow...I feel for the guy. Yes, it is live performance, and nobody's going to ask for their money back, but all that straining can't be good for him.

Definitely not the singer he was in 2008, but with the constant touring, the sickness, and his age (he IS in his mid 40's after all) it's a lot to ask of Pineda to sound perfect.

Not my favorite lineup of Journey either, but I certainly hope Arnel can save his voice for a solo career. Just afraid those guys are going to run him into the ground.

Am I the only person that thinks it sounds pretty good? Compared to the all the boots of Augeri and Jeff, this is not bad.

Finally, this is being discussed. I could see this happening in 2011. I wouldn't be adverse to a new singer being brought in. Something's gonna give eventually.

With APs health issues lately & his TMJ syndrome..he needs to take care of himself first..
One night he's going to reach for that high note & his jaws gonna pop..if he dont
take it easy and rest up.. Thats got to hurt beyond belief...
I'm sure he's getting great medical advice..but within himself he's got to watch
out for himself ...

I wonder if he has bruxism to go with that TMJ, that shit and clicking jaw can damage your hearing big time.

Really? I went to the Doc's a few years back with what I thought was an ear ache. She told me it was TMJ - and I took it easy for a few weeks and its never come back. I had no idea it was anything serious (or could be rather).

Well sometimes it's caused by the bruxism which is a sleep disorder I have where you grind teeth. I have to wear a nightguard.

My jaw clicks when I chew food and it locks up on me the odd time if I open too wide while eating or yawning. Thankfully it's not affected my singing yet but I read that the clicking is bad for the ears and can cause hearing loss and tinnitus.

I 've had it for years...the clicking in the ears when I was younger was just something I didn't think about till I got older & then the dang thing hurt more ..
When you chew food or even sneeze or cough hard...it will mess it up..
Or when you click your jaw back/forth like when you smile...it will click a lot...
Chiropracter works wonders for it though...
If you get a biteguard... make sure its the right size...It helps with a sound sleep...

If Arnel knows what's good for him he should quit while he's ahead. Save his voice for a potential solo career. Or can he?? Do they have him on some potential long term contract?

What potential solo career? In today's music market? Is anybody on this forum still living in the real world? Arnie, like Neal, better cling to the Journey train as long as she keeps a' runnin.

I wonder what will be the catalyst for Journey hanging it up? The end of Neal's alimony payments?

The vid doesn't sound all that bad when comparing it to other singers I've heard sing those songs. To me anyways, it sounds like he's out of breath while singing which is a very hard thing to do. That's why when you see singers running around performing live but they sound record flawlessly perfect, I'd tend to think that's when they are lipping to a prerecording.

Now on the other hand, everyone looses their ability to sing like they did during their prime. Example of that is Air Supply, which was my most favorite band back in the 80's. Listen to Air Supply live now and you'll see what I mean. It happens to everyone and in all corners of life and career. We get old and can't do it like we used to. That's just the way it is.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
