What is the determining factor of when the band actually, officially turns forty? Is it the anniversary of the release of their first album? Is it the date they were signed by their first label (can't remember at the moment who that was...)? Just curious how they determine an actual date. Today's local paper has a blurb about them turning 40 and it got me thinking.

Going by their 30th anniversary tour, it appears Journey marks it the same way as the R&R HOF does; the year of their first record release, 1975.

So then the mention of them starting in 1973 which has been stated in countless articles, doesn't really count in the grand scheme of things? I would have thought the year the formed would be their anniversary but apparently not. I'm confused....

Like I said, Journey did their own self proclaimed 30th anniversary tour in 2005 so as far as Schon and company are concerned 1975 appears to be the year.
