Yeah, that would be cool and I agree. I just looked at it as something they hadn't played yet with this line up, but I know where you're coming from too.

I just don't understand why they pull these songs out when they aren't hits that people have been clamoring for. Between Arrival Generation, Revelation and Eclipse they've got over 40 songs they could give a chance to. Anything is Possible was their last song to chart and they STILL haven't played it live.
Maybe because I saw them with Perry, I see it from a different perspective but how can they expect SP fans to move from that era when it's all the band will give you if you go and see them live? They're not even playing songs from ROR the last five shows. Just this little window of tunes from 78-83, from a band that's been around for 40 years.

Too young to have been able to see Perry, but I've never understood it either considering the amount of other material there is to work with. Even within the past year, Arnel's made mention about wanting to revisit Arrival material. To me, for the sake of keeping things fresh for the band and fans, why not pull stuff from all over the catalog (or at least that post-Perry era)? I wish the gumption was there to not worry how people react in the crowd and just go out there and play, unless it's something that just doesn't translate well live.

The thing is, most of the tickets are sold weeks before the shows, the setlist isn't that big of a deal anymore as far as dictating what type of crowd you are going to get. I have to think it just bruises these guys egos if the crowd isn't into it. The thing is there are a lot of bands out there that will play their new stuff anyway. I would hope Journey would be at that point where they share the spotlight with their new lineup creatively instead of simply basking in the applause for songs from an era that Arnel and Deen weren't even part of.

Maybe there are some written agreements that say if Journey is to continue, they must play within a certain range of the catalog, perhaps peppering in a newer song once in awhile. Neal said re: Eclipse. We built these songs for some of the places we are about to play, or something along those lines. They played COH, Resonate, EOM, Tantra and COL, as far as I remember, then those fell off. They didn't ever attempt TWIMC, SAM, AIP or Someone, which are the better songs off the album for a typical audience that wants the Journey trademark sound.

Outside of COH, the bulk of the other Eclipse tunes were played in Europe (I want to say at least 6 tunes were played in Ireland).

This reminds me of some of the ROR boots... listening to a husky-voiced SP compared to the pristined singing voice from the Infinity-Escape tours.
Poor guy. Arnel sounds scratchy...even on OA...which he was always outstanding in singing.
How many more dates are they playing this year?
Neal's re-union with Santana couldn't come sooner. Give Arnel's voice a long break.

There's no reason for me to see them live again if they're not going to play any of the new stuff. I WOULD go back and see them live if Perry came back - just so I can say I got to see Perry live in concert, but other than that, I think I'm pretty much done seeing Journey in concert.

I saw Perry live on the FTLOSM tour and it wasn't pretty. I cringe at what he might sound like now but I don't think we'll be hearing from Journey with Steve anytime soon.
