Cool that so many former band members got a mention here. I feel the writer took time to actually show some respect.

I remember reading this exact article, or at least the first half of it basically word for word back in late 2007 early 2008. Reading specific parts of it brings back February 3rd all over agaiin to me.

Pretty sure Augeri did suffer from a chronic throat infection. Chronic laryngitis, caused by a fungal infection on his vocal cords. One common cause of the fungal infection is chronic use of steroids and asthma inhalers. Augeri was seen many times on stage using an inhaler during performances.

That's not why he was fired. He was fired when Tapegate came out. He did have vocal issues due to heavy touring, but that's not why he was let go by the band.

I loved Arrival and watched Journey with Augeri 6 or 7 times. I LOVED Steve as a frontman, but telling me that someone who knowingly lipped for a LONG time and had no issue with it "deserves better"... Sorry, but I'm not feeling that at all. He was a great frontman, but when he lost his ability to stand up on stage and give an honest performance, yet did so for a long time to keep the money rolling... WE deserved better. I'm not saying he deserved a throat infection. Not at all. I'm saying that for Journey to say that's WHY he left is ridiculous. They got their hands caught in the cookie jar, then threw that jar as far away from them as possible. They should all be ashamed of their actions.

You have no idea if he did it knowingly.. or was coerced... yet we all know Journey have always been touring dogs.. it's what they were pre-Perry and during Perry's tenure.. It's what they do.

What I meant by "Augi deserved better" is that his so called "brothers", his fellow band mates should have said ... "no.. you need to stop, and we aren't gonna let you continue"... That Steve gets saddled with a ruined voice while the Journey train keeps on rollin'... and the members who's voice isn't their main instrument, but were likely complicit either in their silence or indifference, just so they simply could continue to keep touring/earning is just plain fucking wrong.

Steve literally gave his "all" for the band.

And sure Steve deserves some blame.. but if Deen had lost his arm in a sports car accident.. do ya think they'd replace him or wait for him?

What would you like them to say, Jim? Anything more said would have spelled doom for the band. Is that what we want?

I agree 100% about the whole band being at fault. They knew what was going on, and nobody will convince me otherwise. You don't get on a stage night after night with a guy and "have no clue what's coming through the monitors". The whole thing was bullshit from all involved. I'm just saying that while I loved his voice, don't put him on a pedestal and say he deserved better. He made a nice chunk of money from fans over the years and many times was lip synching. No matter how you slice it, it's bullshit. He does seem like a nice guy, and I do feel bad that Journey blew his voice out with no care of the consequences. He's not the only guilty party.

And no... If something happened to Deen or Ross, they'd be gone in an instant. Nothing stops the machine.
