I thought it had something to do with kids that do dangerous things at a young age, maybe at the urging of their parents, or at least not stopped by their parents. These kids that die on boats or planes trying to beat world records, etc. I thought I read that somewhere, but I could be wrong. Damn good song though.

One of my favorite Journey songs ever.... Steve sings his face off on this one... it also has one of my favorite lines ever in a song: "Holy vengeance is the justice of Hell... Mercy, Mercy..."

I think that song has held up well over the years and lyrically was very relevant last week with the Boston incident...

Love "One More". It does have some sort of "biblical" approach to it. When the album came out, I let my friend listen to it (who has never been a Journey fan at all) and he said that was the best song off of TBF. I think it has held up pretty well.

Arnel is more equipped, I think, singing the ballads. He is screaming, not singing, this song...ouch, my ears.

While I don't profess to have the greatest musical ear, I didn't hear screaming. I guess it's all in the ear of the beholder. Maybe you should go listen to Open Arms or Faithfully.

Annie may be an Arnel-hating Loon, but a broken clock is right twice a day and she's on the mark here. Arnel sucks on One More and Edge of the Blade (in my opinion). He's got the range and the power, but he's too clumsy with his pronunciations for any of it to sound good. Contrast with Perry on One More, who has the pronunciation but none of the range and power.

Thanks Don. I still give it to Arnel, as there was video and I like the thicker vocals with Arnel. Augeri sounded fairly weak on this song.

Going away from the live performance debate and going back to the studio version of the song... Th only thing bugs with with the studio version of the song (especially listening on headphones) is that there's a weird jump in the sound during the chorus of the 2nd verse. After Steve sings "One More Cry in the Night" Steve the holds on "more" but then it seems like jumped into a "yeah"... like they spliced two vocal takes together or something. Otherwise that was one of my favorites off TBF.

Like always, I call it like I see(hear) it ...never even mentioned SP (Giddy compared the 2 singers). I thought maybe JSS may have/would have done a better job singing that song.

Truth be told, I didn't think SP was that special singing this song. Musically, great song, but vocals sounded a little strained. Saving grace was the patented SP nuances that we fondly savor as perryisms.

Hey, there, SA was very good...enjoyed it a lot. You'll never catch me preferring SA over SP in anything.... but St-o is right...different standards: record vs. live performance. Also, on yt, I see SA sang WYLAW in the same '98 Japan concert.
Very credible renditions of the 2 TBF songs. He sang within his range and has nice tone (something his fans always said of him). You don't always have to have power to sing a song. It all depends on the delivery.

Yeah, I believe you are right. Somewhere, there are anecdotes from the guys of every song on the album. I remember a few:
MOL - sequel to SW
OM - turmoil in the ME
WYLAW - 1st song back together. Steve had the melody and lyrics in his head driving up to Jon's house where Neal was waiting. They wrote it together sitting by Jon's piano.
WITOY - Steve's remembrance of his Mom w/Jon's piano accompaniment.
CTTL - Jon's grandiose references to the band performing on stage looking out toward the delirious crowd.
ETF & TBF - I think these 2 songs carry the same reference following the same vein of Steve's last solo album, FTLOSM.
COTS - I think this song originated with Neal's penchant for coming up with edgy instrumentation.
BIALY - This was a jam song when they were just fooling around...a homage to reggae music.
CB has a cool story, too, but I don't remember what it was at the moment.

We agree that Arnel sounds like shit on that song, but I'm mocking the old double standard: criticize Perry? You must have an agenda born from irrational hatred! Criticize Arnel? Well I'm calling it like I see it.

Great call. The more I think about it, 2009 may have been my favorite tour of theirs. A lot of solo dates playing in front of good crowds with long setlists filled with newbies and rarities. And done with a flair+vibe...with energy...with jam.
