Journey Channel on Sirius XM

I'm proposing there be one.
Let's be honest -- there are channels for Bruce, McCartney, Elvis ...
But no other band generates the kind of controversy or discussion that Journey does. This board is living proof.
Wouldn't it be fun to have these kind of debates and retrospectives in the medium of radio?

That might be where Journey's newer music could be worked into the rotation. Make it happen! You have some juice, right? :D

They have a pretty big catalog. Over 15 albums, I guess. It might fly. It would cause me to stop throwing out the Sirius mailings I get biweekly.

Nah.. Noble Cause sucked my juice dry...
But think about it -- Santana...The Babys... Bad English... The Storm... Vital Information... Perry solo.. Tall Stories... It's all in circulation.

Who's with me?! 8)

Most of these artist specific stations have access to archival concerts and rare demos, interviews and what not. Good luck getting Sony, Steve Perry, Nomota and everyone else all on the same page. Sony in particular has been absolutely loath to release any of the older live material.
If it did fly in the end, I think it would be a Sony only playlist. I doubt that they will play ball with Nomota.

I gave up on satellite radio last year because of the cost. You can get personalized stations with Pandora and especially Slacker- matter of fact, I have a Journey station on Slacker right now for a fraction of the cost of satellite.

These single artist stations only serve a purpose if the will play some stuff that isn't widely available; rare interviews, unreleased demos, live performances, etc. Columbia holds the majority of that material for Journey. They probably don't think it's a money maker. You need a LOT of die-hard fans. Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead, Elvis and Bruce have that. Journey doesn't.

Look at Journey's online presence. Their website shutdown the forums a few years ago. They're Facebook page is lethargic. Even this place which used to be at the top of Google whenever you queried Journey has run out of gas. And Arnel's website....for whatever reasons, that place fell of of a cliff. Dead, dead, dead.

Not the band's fault. The pieces have changed. Time marches on. I'm glad for not only what they gave but the particular times in my life when I received their gift.

Yikes, can we get Don some Prozac? Pretty bleak picture you're painting. Step away from the ledge. 8)
Unfortunately, you're accurate on all counts.

Even with the cost, I still stick with satellite radio. I have a Pandora account but I listen to that at home, it's kind of a pain in the ass on the road. The majority of the FM stations around my area are country and would rather puncture my own ear drum with a rusty nail than listen to them so that's definitely out of the question.

I gave up my Sirius over 3 years ago and don't even miss it. Why have it? When I listen to the radio I listen for talk radio when I feel like it. From sports to politics I get it for free. If I want to listen to a particular band I plug my IPOD in and there you go, instant gratification without the inconvenience of why there isn't a Def-Leppard station, or a Kiss station, an Aerosmith station, A Van Halen station, a Bryan Adams station etc. I also download pod-cast of my favorite shows if I happen to miss one. The latest craze I'm getting into is audio-books, man that's some addicting shit!

Pink Floyd, the most overplayed band in the history of AOR, is the next band to have their own channel.

Don't get me wrong...I love Pink Floyd, but how many times do I have to hear the same 3 or 4 songs from them on classic rock radio...formerly AOR?

At least maybe now they'll give some airplay to other groups on Sirius' Classic Rewind, Deep Tracks and others. Oh wait...this is going to be on Deep Tracks. Never mind.

I feel the same way about Rush. I like Rush but I don't need to hear 2112 Overture, and Subdivisions all the fucking time.

I'd be happy with a station that plays AOR/Melodic rock. Seems XM has left that base uncovered. I started listening to country because it's pretty much the only current, accessible bastion of melodic rocking music that I'm aware of. Kinda funny that Darius Rucker of Hootie/Blowfish has a strong second career in country... but he's pretty much playing the same stuff he did in the 80's/90's. Still fairly tasty, imho.

What I would really like is a station that plays only new music from the classic acts. I guess I would define "new" as anything after 1990. At least a 1 hour show every night.
