Now, that said...if Neal toured solo and did both acoustic and electric stuff from his solo works in smaller more intimate venues....that could be interesting. He could even do new acoustic arrangements of one or two classic Journey tunes to save for "encores" etc... Do special shows at casinos, live music bars etc. and highlight his solo work...that I'd go see.
I would be interested too, but I think the problem is that Neal doesn't have the confidence for it. He is used to big stages and intimate venues freak him out and he soon gives up. He also doesn't seem to know how to build support for material and prefers to play what is already popular with the fans. Problem with that, is his solo stuff isn't popular. He has some good solo material, but he has to have insight into which songs have potential to become popular and then have the persistence to give fans a chance to like them over time. I don't think Neal can be that type of player after so much commercial success in Journey. It's a shame too, because this is why he will never get his proper due as a guitarist. Money and fame motivate him more than artistry, just like the rest of us working stiffs.
Thought I would try and bring this thread back since the new album is due in a couple of months and I figured we must all be sick of the wedding sideshow and other non-music related stuff by now.
