Japan 2013 - Will it be released?

Postby PianoMan1986 » Sun Jul 07, 2013 6:35 pm

Even though Arnel's (very) apparent new vocal techniques are present, I was wondering if anyone knew if the the concert that was filmed was going to be released, or if it was done just for broadcast there?

I think AP was just suffering from something when this was done. He had sounded like that another time and then shows later he was back to normal. Or maybe he has good nights and bad nights. Definitely something holding him back here though.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Meh....the Band and Arnel sounded better on the Manilla DVD. The wear and tear shows on his voice, and the band while they sound good... have no stage presence anymore.

The show was recorded live for a charity event by a Japanese cable company. The band didn't record it. Just like the 1980, 81 and 83 shows from Japan. They were all recorded for Japanese Television. None of them have ever been officially released as concert videos by Sony.

So, no. I don't think it will be released. If it is, it will probably be only available in Japan. Looking at the setlist, it's nothing special anyway.

The pronunciation that he's using now has ZERO to do with his voice having "wear and tear". It's a new approach he's using. Doesn't mean his voice is going bad. I've seen him in recent interview (not sure where that is) where he sang DSB right next to the interviewer, totally quiet. Not shouting. Not straining. Not rough. Hitting every note. If a guy's voice is in bad shape, he can't do that. What he's doing is a change in style or technique, but I would be hard pressed to believe it's because his "voice is going bad". Many singers have coaches. Some coaches give good advice, some do not. As far as stage presence, Arnel, Deen, and Neal seem to be the only ones that care about that anymore.

Read the reviews out there (from journalists that realize Perry is the past) and you'll see most of them saying that Arnel is holding the band up. That is largely true, though I think Neal and Deen do as well.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

ahh the ol' "whisper test".. I remember that one from my vocal teacher....

I think with rest Arnel can sing quite well, especially upper register.. its when he gets dates he has to sing and he''s either sick or not well rested.. and that pronunciation thing is evident too.. It looks like he's framing his vowels differently..

Either way.. at his age he's not gonna have the vocal elasticity or pliability of his early 30's

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

If they do for some reason release it, it will be the first Journey product that I will not buy. Such a miserably boring, stale setlist.

They'll release it about the same time they release that second Augeri era DVD they recorded.
