If you sing something loud enough, can you really make it come true? For Journey fans, the answer may be yes.

In Detroit, the band's massive hit "Don't Stop Believin'" is still played at bars, hockey games and other activities requiring emotional audience sing-a-longs. In the first verse, Journey frontman Steve Perry tells the tale of a "city boy, born and raised in South Detroit."

That mythical geographic location (there IS no South Detroit!) was the stuff of legend for music fans and Michiganders alike. Was the boy from "Don't Stop Believin'" actually born under the Detroit River? Did he hail from a "Downriver"   suburb, located due south of the city itself? Given that Detroit is the only American city geographically fixed north of Canada, was our city boy really a Canuck?

Perry, a Bay Area native, admitted in 2012 that he made up "South Detroit" because it sounded good. Now, a new restaurant opening in Windsor will finally give residents on both side of the border the "South Detroit" they wished for, and wailed to, for so long.

According to Windsorite, the new South Detroit eatery will be a full-service bar and restaurant featuring a menu of burgers, soups, sandwiches, flatbreads and raw oysters on the weekends. The new restaurant will grace downtown Windsor's main entertainment drag, Oullette Avenue.

South Detroit co-owner Mat Mathias told Windsorite he read an article that discussed how three names were originally pitched for the Southern Ontario city: Windsor (the winner), Rochester, or ... South Detroit.

Looks like Steve Perry knew what he was talking about all along, eh?
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com
