Neal's Call Out To Steve

Though I must admit I'm surprised to hear him use the L-word, this really wasn't anything new or provocative. Neal's been on the record before saying he wishes he could talk to Steve Perry, but it's Perry that doesn't want to speak.

I see no reason why these two should not make a record together - away from Journey. But then again, I don't know anything about the cause of the rift.

In case anyone is wondering what Family Man is talking about, Neal apparently made this comment regarding an old 2012 Steve interview.
"Great Steve Perry interview. I hope we can reach out to each other and connect once again. We had amazing chemistry together. I love him. With all the love and admiration you could even have. Steve lets talk soon ~ Neal."

Journey’s Neal Schon Tries To Make Peace With Steve Perry
July 29, 2013
http://931jackfm.cbslocal.com/2013/07/2 ... eve-perry/Journey has continued their musical journey without the powerful pipes of former frontman Steve Perry, but an animosity reportedly existed. While guitarist Neal Schon is apparently ready to let bygones be, well, bygones after he reached out to Perry via a recent Facebook post.
Perry left in 1998, but Schon posted an interview with the former frontman saying “Great Steve Perry interview.”
“I hope we can can reach out to each other and connect once again. We had amazing chemistry together,” continued Schon. “I love him with all the love and admiration you could even have. Steve let’s talk soon.”
Maybe the recent loving feelings are because Perry–who has gone through major health issues for awhile now–was recently treated for skin cancer.
“Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer,” confessed Perry. “I’ve had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I’ve been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required.”
Including the silent treatment from his former band mates.

This shines some light on it....when health risks are present, it's time to move all of the silly shit aside.
+1 Neal!

Can't hold grudges forever - it's just not healthy. Glad Neal is willing to set it aside and reach out to Steve. There should be no contest to out asshole each other anymore.

Exactly, an over a year response, but guess anything to try to stir up some pub for the out-of-sight and mind band. The Youtube story is dead, DSB EMJ is dead, Eclipse died long time ago, Walmart dropped them, Sony won't or anyone else will touch them, and they are travelling solo at fairs and casino - no package deal publicity.
Just how low will that guitary player go? Will do anything for pub. No wonder Steve Perry keeps his distance from him and the rest of the tribute band.

Folks were buggin Schon on his FB to send a message to Steve, in light of his letter on FA.
Schon advised them on his FB, that he had done so, sending a note privately...
His FBers...kept after him....even after he advised them of same.
A day or two later..Schon posted his FB message to Steve on his FB...
& it has blown up to what it is now..
If Schon was sincere, he should have let it die...on his statement..that he sent a message to
Steve privately. It would then be between Steve & Schon..privately..whether they talk or not.
Where it goes from there.......Infinity...

Journey's Neal Schon ready to talk with Steve Perry again; is a reunion next?
Steve Spears
Stuck in the 80's
Wednesday, July 31, 2013
http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/80s/journ ... xt/2134103Journey founder and guitarist Neal Schon says he's ready to talk again with former lead singer Steve Perry. Could a reunion be in the works?
"I hope we can reach out to each other and connect once again. We had amazing chemistry together," Schon said on Facebook, according to Classic Rock Magazine. "I love him with all the love and admiration you could have. Steve, let's talk soon."
While there's no mention of a possible reunion, it's the warmest language to come from Schon in ages. And as much as everyone loves the story behind Arnel Pineda, one has to wonder if the kid has the endurance for the road that the other Journey members have. And it comes on the heels of keyboardist Jonathan Cain saying that -- after the thud of Eclipse -- there's no reason for Journey to record any new music.
"The last album we made was a departure; we did a heavy rock’n'roll record. It wasn’t received very well in the States and they kinda liked it in Europe," Cain said in an interview in March. "That’s what I thought was going to happen. It barely sold 100,000. After all that time and money, what are we doing here?"
Well, what you're doing is make a nice paycheck (I assume) touring around, playing your hits. Imagine what sort of raise you'd score if Steve Perry was handling lead vocal duties again. Furthermore imagine briging drummer Steve Smith back into the mix, and maybe keyboardist Gregg Rolie. They've all collaborated on and off again over the years.
2013 would have been the perfect year for all this. After all, it's the 30th anniversary of Frontiers.

Garbage article. Hey, you know what, after Arrival tanked, Cain said he was done with full LPs. Was that some sort of harbinger that a Perry reunion was happening? No. What about when Generations sold roughly as much (maybe less) as William Hung's album? Cain's obsession with record sales is anachronistic and delusional. In today's Itunes/Kickstarter age, artists who want to create, simply do so. I am pretty sure that Neal does not lose sleep over whether SoulSirkus charted or whether his new Deen/Marco side project will make a splash. Maybe Cain needs to find a new line of work. His motivation for being in the band these days is what exactly? He looks fucking miserable and all he does is trash Eclipse, which is probably the most ambitious album since Frontiers.

If this uneducated midget overrated guitarist (at least here - no one else cares) wanted to contact Steve Perry I'm sure he has the channels to do so rather than commenting online about a very old interview.
He knows how to contact him if he really wanted to.

NS is just prepping for semi-retirement. He's looking down the road 3,4, or 5 yrs.
Think about it a little deeper. He's probably getting a little nostalgic for the 70s since planning for the Santana reunion. They'll write & record for a few months this fall into next year. If a new Santana record comes out next year, it'll probably garner a lot of buzz...they'll do tv, gobs of interviews, more press/photo opps, etc. That'll take months. They'll test market some shows, then plan for something extensive. By the time this is all done, it'll be 2016. Then they get to re-eval the whole Santana thing. They'll decide if there's any more Santana life in the tank, or they'll decide that it is what it is and hang it up.
Meanwhile, Schon & Perry start warming back up to each other, and maybe work on some of Perry's current folder of the '50 sketches/partials/etc'. Maybe they bring in Rolie for a few. Maybe they get Jonathon Cain to do some arranging & production work. (Maybe Perry produces and they find other singers?) Regardless, by now it's 2017 or 18, and they know they can't tour like they once did. And they don't have to. (Although, Schon probably will.) They can put out some new music - in whatever form - and maybe they play live a few times, give or take, if possible.
And this is all kinda fitting actually. Schon gets to go out the same way he got in - Santana, then Journey.
later~

He probably just found it. There are lots of interviews out there. It's a big internet.
I've never heard that one, either, until now. I doubt Schon just constantly sits around, googling "Steve Perry interview".

Everybody plz give it a rest about getting Steve Perry back. I simply reached out to him on a friendship level.
Steve does what Steve wants to and has for years. That is very evident in his interview I posted last week where he states ( I LEFT THE BAND) is that sinking in???? Some are Very Hard Headed with understanding this and getting it right in their own heads. Cheers , Peace N

Correct. It's all for show (for whatever bizarre reason). And wasn't this the same guy who, in a couple of interviews just 2-3 years ago, was basically telling Steve Perry to go fuck himself? Curious turnaround.
He should start by asking him to be best man at the latest wedding. Ya know, break the ice a little. Or
maybe the next wedding. Next wedding for sure, if not by then, then too much time has gone by to fix it.
