Had a long drive last night. Listened to a lot of the Generations Dallas show. This was the one they filmed and were going to release on DVD but never did. Augeri sounded Great on it. It makes me wonder if it was one of the Taped Vocals shows. Does anyone know? It was just too long of a show and his voice was on pitch and powerful throughout. Just seemed way too consistent considering when it was recorded

Canned vocals, which is absolutely the reason it was not released. It would have been the death knell to put out a commercially released DVD that could have been compared with another commercially released DVD (2001 Arrival) with the same vocals. No question about it.

Yet more "genius" of Schon and Cain live.

If its from the Generations tour, the odds are overwhelming that its canned vox. SA's voice went down early into that tour. Crowd banter is live. Ad libs at the end of songs are live. The encore, LTS, is also 100% live.

The lead vocals were from tracks. It could not be released commercially, "someone" ended up eating all the production expenses on that one.

My favorite Journey tour since "Vacation's Over." Kevin Elson once told me that the reason the Generations DVD was never released was because of Augeri's problematic vocals. So that tells me they WEREN'T canned.

He lied to you. They were absolutely canned.

Well then technically, I guess, he was actually telling the truth.

Elson wasn't lying ... because Augeri's vocals were problematic. They didn't always match up with the movement of his lips during extreme close up footage ... and they had already been released to DVD on the 2001 Vegas concert.

That DVD, as I understand was all reworked in the studio, right?

According to Herbie and others, Augeri's vocals were problematic during the filming of Vegas 2001. And that got a release. So it stands to reason that the Generations dvd was never released for other reasons. Someone once posted a link to the website of the production company behind the unreleased Dallas dvd. They had a snippet of footage on their website.

On the back DVD cover, the credits says that the vocals were produced by Kevin Shirley. The question is, to what extent? I am willing to give Augeri the benefit of the doubt. However, their European tour revealed that they had re-recorded alot of the back catalog including rarer tracks like Dead or Alive and Edge of the Blade.

Shirley? I never saw that. I didn't know they were dealing with him then.

I remember reading on Perryville about this concert, in 2005. Posters reported on complaints coming from the show. Apparently, the band hired strippers (showgirls?) to occupy the front rows for filming, causing quite a stir among "real" fans who got shoved back. The "plants" were paid to cheer, holler, dance to every note, every song. That, or they seemed high on something. It was funny learning of this ...

Rick ... Kevin Shirley produced Arrival, his 2nd with the band, after TBF. So, I think they kept him on to produce the dvd.
Sony dropped Journey from the label after the Arrival release. Some say the band fulfilled their contractual obligations, and it was a mutual decision to part ways. Actually, it was Neal that first said that, and it became the party line.
