LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/journe ... 00093.html

JOURNEY and STEVE MILLER BAND will kick off a 2014 summer tour on May 15 at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California with special guest Tower of Power. The tour, produced by Live Nation, will bring two of the iconic groups that helped define the "San Francisco Sound" - Journey and Steve Miller Band - to more than 30 cities across North America including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto and Detroit.

"We are all so looking forward to playing again for you in 2014 with the great company of the Steve Miller Band and Tower of Power," said the members of JOURNEY. "It's going to be a San Francisco musical delight from the past and present, moving full speed ahead into the future!"

"I can't think of a better way for the JOKER to celebrate his 40th and the Steve Miller Band to enjoy next summer than playing all our hits for all of our fans as we tour the entire USA with our brother San Francisco bands, Journey and the Tower Of Power," says Steve Miller. "This is going to be a NOT TO BE MISSED TRIFECTA OF THE BEST OF SOUL, GREATEST HITS AND ARENA ROCK by three of the greatest bands to come out of San Francisco, clearly a once in a life time event. We can't wait to get started!"

Tickets for the general public go on sale starting Friday, November 22 at www.livenation.com. Fans will have an opportunity to make a donation to benefit those affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan at time of ticket purchase.

Journey VIP Packages will be available through VIP Nation including premium seats, exclusive merchandise and more. For more information, please visit www.VIPNation.com.

Diamond-certified album holder Journey has sold 80 million albums worldwide and has earned 19 Top 40 singles and 25 gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums since its formation in 1973 in San Francisco. The prestigious "Legend of Live Award" was presented to Journey at the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards to honor the band's contributions to live music and the touring business and to acknowledge their commitment to fans and the art of performing live. The band's 2011 World Tour was one of the band's most successful tours ever, drawing nearly a million fans and ranked in the Top 15 Tours of the year. 2011 also marked the 30th anniversary of the band's seminal anthem, "Don't Stop Believin'," the biggest selling song from the 20th century in iTunes history. In 2013, Journey toured four continents and performed to more than half a million fans.

One of rock music's all-time greats, the Steve Miller Band has sold more than 30 million records in a career spanning more than 40 years. His trademark blues-rock sound has made him one of the defining artists of classic rock radio. The 2013 touring season by the Steve Miller Band follows four of the most busy, productive years in the long, illustrious career of Steve Miller. He has released two albums in the past few years including the number one blues album, Bingo, and its successor, Let Your Hair Down - the first new Steve Miller Band in eighteen years. In 2010, Miller went back to Europe for the first time in 25 years for a hugely successful round of dates culminating in a sold-out Royal Albert Hall concert in London that opened the door for the band to tour Europe twice in the past three years. In demand around the world as well, they also launched a tour of Australia and New Zealand in Spring 2013.

I'm shooting for the Darien Lake show in June myself. Journey and Steve Miller should be decent but I don't give a flying fuck about Tower of Power. They couldn't find a better opening act than that?

I'm actually planning to catch Tower of Power because I've always wanted to see them. Then I'll go drink beer during Steve Miller.

That is a bit of an odd combination, I don't see the TOP crowd and the Journey crowd meshing. With that said, I've seen TOP a number of times, and they are an AMAZING live act. All top-notch musicians. David Garibaldi is as solid of a drummer as they come. And if Larry Braggs is still singing with them (they have a regular revolving door of singers), then you'll be in for a treat. Dude is phenomenal. He sang with California Transit Authority, which was Danny Seraphine's Chicago spin-off band. They sound a lot more like the old 70's Chicago than the real Chicago band does at this point in time. Check out their live version of 25 or 6 to 4. Larry sounds quite a bit Perry-ish at the end of the song. Also, Danny actually took some brush-up lessons from Steve Smith before starting the band, so he plays like a beast on the album as well.

Another triple bill tour. Sorry, but the Arnel lineup is a total uninspired waste of time. With Augeri, we got some deep cuts. In 2004, we had SA doing "Opened the Door" and Deen doing "Happy to Give." In 2013, it's the dirty dozen non-stop. Screw this. I think Neal needs to take the reigns back again, or find his balls.

They haven't had an inspired tour since 2009. They started out on fire with Arnel....New Album in '08, Great tour in '08, Best tour since Frontiers in 2009, Great edgey album in 2011...then its been pffflllllttttlllllllffff.

I can't fork out for the good seats around Xmas time either. So it will be lawn for me...and for a triple bill again I spose that's fine.

Neal had balls on Eclipse and everybody pissed and whined that it just wasn't pop enough.
Well... ya can't have it both ways. Nobody supported Eclipse-including the band.
Not sure what people expect at this point.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

To have my full support, which has been substantial, I expect new material. It's been my expectation since the reformation in '98 and the basis on which I've argued to others why they are relevant post-perry.

Next year will be 3 years since an album, they have never gone 4 except during hiatuses.

And triple bills mean short sets which mean very GH heavy.

GH sets with no new music doesn't meet expectations.

The next album will be 'Santana'. And I expect Carlos & Gregg Rolie to make a few more Journey appearances next year as PR prep. If Santana goes well, Journey won't be back for a few years...if at all.

WCTNGOF went to #60
On the adult contempary charts it was #24

It would have went top 20 easily released when they were still a band and touring,
but after a year after ROR was released it fizzled,
remembered it was a top 5 video on MTV for a month or so.

On what facts do you base this on? Maybe they just wanted to add some variety to the tour.

What other reason do you give for them going out with two other vintage acts this year? They haven't toured in support of a new album since Revelation and have had the same set list since then. If they could tour and make money by themselves or with a smaller name opener they would. The fact that they're touring with Steve Miller kind of hints that they need all the help that they could get. Especially when you consider that Steve Miller might be as well known or even more well known than Journey is. Also consider that Steve Miller has toured sporadically and that is going to bring the people in.

I've seen Journey more than 20 times (in every incarnation of the band) so when the summer 2014 dates were announced last week I considered buying tickets for my wife and I. I quickly decided against it though when I saw how high ticket prices were.....$100 - $250 for "pavillion" level and $50 for lawn at Riverbend in Cincinnati. Are these guys joking? I want to know who in their right mind would shell out this kind of cash to see these guys?

Some people felt the same last concert season, but yet, the shows sold out in many cases. The market drives the prices. The casual fans just want to see Journey, even if they play the same dirty dozen. The hard cores around here don't make up much of the the band's total fan base. As far as the setlists and people here complaining about the same tunes all the time, including me, well.....the band is in a pickle on that one, because that is what the casual fans come to hear. Even though Journey has some great music outsided of the DD, all those tunes have proven in the past is that people get up and go get a beer or hit the bathroom.

If Journey didn't stop selling during the recession, they won't now. They're like Jimmy Buffet at this point. Same show, same venue, same set every year. But it's annual. And people go. It's what we do.

Ask the Lonely was only a regional hit, maybe made the Rock Charts, but never charted in the Top 100.
If the band made a video for the song, and promoted it, it would have, but at this point Steve was solo.

Tower of Power to Ring in the New Year with New Lead Singer

2013/12/23

http://www.jambands.com/news/2013/12/23 ... rgbVSl3tjo

Legendary soul/funk band Tower of Power have announced that they will welcome Ray Greene as the newest lead vocalist as of the New Year. In a press release, bandleader Emilio Castillo noted that Greene was chosen unanimously over all others who auditioned. Greene will join the ranks of at least 60 different musicians who have toured or recorded with the iconic horn band throughout its 45 year existence.

Of course, the lineup change means the band has parted with lead singer Larry Braggs, seemingly on good terms, after thirteen years of making music together.

In a statement Braggs says:

Thirteen years ago I took a chance and joined one of the greatest horn bands the world has ever known. With no idea of what to expect or what it really represented, I embarked on a musical journey. I found myself standing in front of this massive wall of organized rhythmic infusion of sound that was like a train moving in fluid motion around curves and mountains, up hills and through valleys. Basically, I was in over my head on October 18, 2000; I was now the lead vocalist for Tower of Power. A band with a history of legendary musicians and a list of accolades that expanded over decades, lead by incredible vocalists.

I had to prove to these guys that I was good enough and could handle this gig. Then came you guys the fans, or should I say the eleventh member of TOP! You are the most amazing, crazy involved, in tune, trusting, giving, loyal folks any artist could ever ask for.

You have accepted me from day one. Always encouraging and uplifting at every show. Over the past thirteen years I have made so many great friends and relationships that have enriched my life in so many ways. It makes for this extended family of friends that will last forever. I know that my time with the band has come to a close. This is just a chapter in this fairy tale life you have allowed me to live. There are so many words that could be said to express my feelings to you for entrusting me to carry the load as front man of your favorite soul band. From California to Connecticut, Europe to Asia, China to Canada. Cities like Oakland, New York, New Haven, Boston, Annapolis, Tokyo, Osaka, Oakville, Shanghai, Paris, London, Munich, Copenhagen, Oslo, Sidney, Toronto, Quebec, Seoul, Hamburg, Milan and so many beautiful places and people all over the world. You have told me how much I and the band has changed or inspired your lives. In the reality of it all, you beautiful spirits have given me so much love and joy that I can never say thank you enough.

From the bottom of my heart I want to say with everything that is in my capacity as a true believer in the universal path of brotherly love, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

“We want to thank Larry Braggs for 13 years of phenomenal singing with the band,” said bandleader Emilio Castillo in a press release. “He’s been one of the best singers Tower of Power has ever had, and we wish him total success in all of his endeavors.”

Tower of Power will celebrate New Year’s Eve in Lincoln, CA at the Thunder Valley Casino Holiday Pavilion.
