Anyone know what happened?
Probably unrelated to the Santana reunion. Think about it. If this Santana thing is really gonna happen, it needs to happen in a very large way, not something hurried. So let Schon do some more Journey - and use that for Santana PR somehow, and let Carlos do his own thing to definitely use that for Santana reunion prep. As they get new Santana music all framed & polished, they'll start the PR machine for that next year. And who knows, maybe 'Corazon' will have Schon & Rolie on it...but maybe only as a featured song or two just to test the market for a Santana reunion.
I mean, you can practically quote CS already, as if it's some time next year - "Ya know, I did that Corazon album...with all the great latino muscicians on it. And it went over well. It really brought me back to my roots. And that got me to thinking that...that is where Santana originally came from...you know? So why not get as many of the original Santana guys as I could get back together...and let's see what happens. I'm really proud of this new album. It feels like 1970 all over again and we never left."
(Hope I'm right about all this.

Sorry, but think you are off quite a bit. Seems they "tested the water" and there never seemed to have been much buzz about it, but then why would there be. Santana went on to great fame without Rolie and definitely without Neal to the point that the majority knows or cares little that those two guys, especially Neal, ever existed in Santana. Perhaps Santana thought he could use that for a big pub, but did not seem to work out that way.
Now, after some passionate rabble-rousing by some, Santana is finally nominated to take his stand at the Presidental function, (like Led Z & other biggies have done) and perhaps does not need the unheralded reunion with the past. So it boils down to who gives you more status or PR, Greg and Neal (Did "The Calling" sell a 1000?) or
Pitbull, Meshael (?) who are everywhere, Estefan or some of the other big names on that album. If that hits big as you alluded to, he definitely won't need the past.
It is always about moving forward, if possible, not trying to "rehash" the past, especially with someone who did not play a huge part for you (maybe Greg s/what, but definitely not Neal). You try to "rehash" the past (w/o great payoffs) when you cannot do anything else, aka Journey. Journey has gone from a headliner to opening act and/or co-headliner. Their days seem to be wounding downward instead of upward so can't see them beneficial to Santana, esp Neal solo. Journey donating 350k and at the same time announcing their 2014 co-headlining tour (never so early) may indicate trouble with pub and need to stir up some.
The day I donate money to an org. whereas Pineda is somewhat leading the charge, please have me committed
quickly. Will stick with Red Cross as announced at CBS.
