WTF

Why You Should Pay to Watch Journey Guitarist and Reality TV Woman's Massive S.F. Wedding

http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/201 ... r_view.php

By Ian S. Port Fri., Dec. 13 2013

There's a lot going on here, so let's break it down. First, "Journey guitarist" -- you know who Neal Schon is, right? He's the sole member of one of San Francisco's all-time most successful (and, yes, embarrassing) rock bands, the one who really didn't stop believing.

Now. Mr. Schon is enamored with one Michaele Holt Salahi, star of a trashy televised thing called "Real Housewives of D.C." So enamored that they want to get married. Naturally, on live TV, because all important people live their lives on TV now, when they aren't crashing White House parties. Neal and Michaele are doing their TV nuptuals at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts. This Sunday. And they want to charge you $14.95 for the privilege of watching what has been breathtakingly named "Neal and Michaele: The Winter Wonderland Wedding and Music Event."

Surely, you're thinking, "Privilege? I thought privileges were, like, driving, and getting free drinks when your friend is working the bar?"

Well, yes, okay. A televised wedding between two people almost no one cares about does seem a rather amazing thing to ask people to pay $14.95 for.

But look! There's going to be not one but three celebrity red carpets, a jazz band, orchestra, choir, and a surprise guest. That's worth, what, $5.95? And Journey's gonna play, and you already pay $5 for the privilege of hearing one of their songs in a karaoke bar.

Oh, and some of the proceeds from the pay-per-view thing will go toward Philippines relief, although Neal and Michaele aren't saying how much. (Depends on how many people watch, probably.) So you could throw in an extra few bucks for that, right?

All in all it's a pretty good deal, because we haven't even mentioned that you'll be getting:

- Sammy Hagar, hopefully in a red tuxedo.
- Tower of Power, also performing.
- A 35-person wedding party, complete with 18 bridesmaids and 14 groomsmen.

And, it's the first-ever celebrity* wedding broadcast live on pay-per-view.

So when you look at it like that, how can you afford not to watch Neal and Michaele: The Winter Wonderland Wedding and Music Event this Sunday, is the question.

*Discussion question: Are Neal Schon and Michaele Holt Salahi real celebrities?

I think some people will actually watch, including some of us here. Now, whether people admit to watching, that will be another thing altogether.

The thing is that fans of Journey and other Melodic Rock/AOR bands are generally more mature and intelligent than fans of say Rap or this whole American Idol type of "music" are. And this whole tabloid-ish crap doesn't appeal to mature and intelligent people nearly as much as it does the immature and stupid crowd, to be honest.

Yeah, there is a lot of hate on Neal's FB page. Maybe it wasn't clear enough that the reason for it being PPV was not a money grab on Neal's part, but that the money is being raised to be donated to the hurricane victims in the Philippines.

I'd look at the fine print of how much is going to charity.

It's one thing to think it's tacky, dumb, whatever. It's another thing to shit all over a guy on his facebook on his wedding day. Really low blow from his "fans."

Those doing that shit are more than likely not his fans and very likely Perry loons. I agree.....very low and classless.

Smitty was there and sat in with the band when Neal played a song that he wrote for her.

Neal, Jonathan and Arnel performed. The first song was "Stay Awhile" -
next Faithfully - which they also did. They also did DSB and
When You Love A Woman.

Band and orchestra played Journey tunes. they played Lights and Good Morning Girl..instrumentally..

Did Neal do anything cool or original with the orchestra? This was what had me most interested in the PPV. I'd like to hear some of that.

Anything less than "what ever is left after expenses" is a money grab...

Since the percentage being donated isn't stated... we prolly will never know..

So the surprise guest was a washed up R&B singer who hasn't had a hit album in like 10 years?

I saw some interview about the event on the E channel or some sorts. Just the bride and groom talking about how much in love they were, right after they talked about people buying the PPV to see them get married. Heartwarming.

And then they started making out on camera. It serves me right for having the E channel on to begin with.

Just kill me.

Not really. This is Neal's like, what, tenth wedding? I think after the first three, they pretty much lose all emotional significance. Him and his wannabe celebuslut wanted attention? They got it!

wouldn't this be a "pot kettle black" post??

Neal Schon: Just a kind note to to all my fans ... Much love too you all.
Haters will always be miserable within them selfs and can't find there way out of their own narcissism. Fact. Club house zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring lol

nar·cis·sism (närs-szm) also nar·cism (-szm)

1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself.
