Journey Rehearsals

Postby RocknRoll » Thu Jan 09, 2014 5:57 pm

I haven't been here in ages although I still check the forums out. Anyway to start a little conversation. Journey just posted they're now rehearsing for 3 weeks prior to a tour staring in May??  Very interesting! Anybody heard anything?

I could be wrong, but I took it to mean that a 3 week rehearsal period is planned, but has not begun yet. (They said we WILL be rehearsing.)

Well, according to Perry's vocal coach, it's gonna take a long time and a lot of rehearsal. ;)

Can anyone re-post the FB update? On the Journey page, the only new thing I saw was Neal wishing people a "Happy New Year" and a ton of spam for his pay-per-view wedding.

Thanks, Eric. Here it is....

"We will be rehearsing for 3 weeks to revamp Everything before our tour with Steve Miller & Tower of Power starts ..
See you soon"

They could revamp by kicking Arnel out, hiring Kevin Chalfant, and writing a new album. For publicity sake, they could say they found Kev homeless, wandering the streets of Chicago, rummaging thru dumpsters for half-eaten red hots, singing in bus stations...whatever.

he's said this before... but absent the DD.. they have no show anymore.. there aren't enough diehards to fill a stadium, much less the lay fan who only cares about the DD...

Pretty sure that Tater is just posting a FB comment by a fan, not an actual band member.

Yea unfortuntately what I call the 'drive-by fans' can't get into their early stuff..they just want the DD like you said..

This is dangerous..when the mind asks me a question..

They had done songs on tour ..that JC did, from the Babies.
that NS did from his solo albums,
and SP did too from his solo.

Have they ever let AP do a song of his on tour..and no eclipse don't count.. :?:

Right... then everyone will bitch about not hearing stuff like LTS and Lights... then they'll go back to the normal deal.
They need to do a smaller venue tour FOR THE DIEHARDS. Play stuff from Revelation, Eclipse, Arrival - and the Perry albums.
No 3-act bills just for the fans. Promote it as such to try to keep the soccer moms at home that can't get past 1978.

They did "smaller venue [solo] tour FOR THE DIEHARDS" last year as they fell off the planet. They are listed at #73 North America and #95 World Tour lists, which is not good for a "Perryless Journey," not that they have been blowing up the charts with Bon Jovi, Taylor, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac or Rolling Stones type dollars, that the must do w/o Steve Perry. And, of course, there won't be any "Promote" for a "Revelation, Eclipse, Arrival - and the Perry albums" unless they are playing Oh Sherrie and maybe Foolish Heart and Don't Fight It.

Remember this "Journey without Steve Perry is a Greatest Hits Show" (2012). That's their "Reality Show" so maybe it should be yours.

The REALITY is Steve Perry was FIRED from the band and time has moved on. If you want to reminisce, go put on one of the many reissues that Steve has so graciously put out there for his fans while Journey has kept on creating NEW music. As soon as Perry puts out something new, I will buy it. As soon as he tours, I will be there. I've seen Journey MANY times with and without Perry. No question- Steve was amazing. But he's gone now. To constantly whine about it and be a dick about it to others in a Journey fan forum is ridiculous, not to mention pretty douchey. There are cool things from each phase of the band's career, including the newer stuff. If you don't like it, that's your choice. Some of us actually do dig it and are glad that the band is still out there. Wake up- NOBODY from that time period is selling millions of albums. By your definition, you must really think Justin Beiber is great because his albums and tours are higher in Billboard's ratings than Journey. Sales do not necessarily equate with quality (especially in music) and really, I could give a flying fuck what Journey's sales are today. Do I like it? Yeah. Am I gonna pay to see them? NOT if they keep doing the same live show. I've seen them do the same songs too many times. It's not so much a slam on Journey now as it is on those that won't let them move on.
By the way dude, I've watched your act for a few months now- grow some f'ing class. This is a cool group here and there's no need to be such an ass.

Journey barely toured US last year....some make up dates and sporadic late season dates. Korn proves again she doesn't know what she's talking about.

Perry's RETIRED - "There is more to life than singing and touring." SP 9/2013. Nice that the music he helped create "goes on and on" since karaoke Journey has been unable to create anything without him.

They will be co-headlining this year since the "Perryless Journey" fell off the planet last year trying to go solo.

Why don't you check with pollstar. Like I said the Perryless Journey should not be hanging around at #73 and #95 aka fell off the planet. But, they are co-headlining/triple packaging with a "big band as usual" this year so that should help keep them somewhat afloat.

Really? Deen said in 2012 that Steve Perry was "dismissed" and Neal said in 2012 that he was "ousted" (big word for him), but now that woman beater says nothing and Neal now in 2014 says "Steve opted to leave." Seems the tune is changing, so I'll say "Name that Tune." Guess that's how it goes when fans start beating on you about that as you spiral down hill when you thought you were about to regain your "past glory" with something new instead of trying to "rehash past glories" 2012 or "living off past glories." 2009/10.

brywool wrote:If you want to reminisce, go put on one of the many reissues that Steve has so graciously put out there for his fans while Journey has kept on creating NEW music.

Too bad the Perryless Journey cannot play that "NEW music."

brywool wrote:As soon as Perry puts out something new, I will buy it. As soon as he tours, I will be there. I've seen Journey MANY times with and without Perry. No question- Steve was amazing. But he's gone now.

No kidding! Hopefully, he is enjoying retirement, not having to "hog the road' constantly in triple package deals, with "big bands", just trying to stay afloat. But, of course, that would not be the case if he 'were' still at the helm..... And, of course, he would NOT have been singing for some attorney at a "private party." (2013) They should really be thankful for AP, for he will do anything they ask of him (excepting moving them forward w/writing hit songs, etc. but guess not asking the impossible)

brywool wrote:To constantly whine about it and be a dick about it to others in a Journey fan forum is ridiculous, not to mention pretty douchey.

Kinda "douchey" like the band in their failed efforts to wipe out Steve Perry...huh... :?:

brywool wrote:There are cool things from each phase of the band's career, including the newer stuff. If you don't like it, that's your choice. Some of us actually do dig it and are glad that the band is still out there.

Been doing the soundalike/karaoke thing since Steve Perry's departure, and now you hand-full of supposed hardcore fans want to hear something different knowing since 1998 what the band has had to do to stay somewhat afloat.

brywool wrote:Wake up- NOBODY from that time period is selling millions of albums. By your definition, you must really think Justin Beiber is great because his albums and tours are higher in Billboard's ratings than Journey.

"NOBODY" is the Perryless Journey. The fact is that the Perryless Journey "from that time period" must sell "millions of albums," which they cannot do. In other words, they must do BIG THINGS or they will fall off the planet (as they did in 2013 trying to go solo) since they no longer have a STAR player and no more "Today Show" or alive "YT story" to tell. Trying to garner buzz by sending SP and invitation to that travesty PPV wedding.

"Justin Beiber [sic] is great because his albums and tours are higher in Billboard's ratings than Journey," and he is a current, talented young guy with media buzz. He capitalized on his "YT story" by creating "NEW Music" that people bought, not reworking 30 year old songs as an insulting "soundalike."

"Teen Pop Star Justin Bieber Discovered on YouTube - ABC News
abcnews.go.com › GMA‎
Nov 14, 2009 - Teen pop star Justin Bieber, 15, is about to release his new album. He was discovered by record executives after he posted homemade videos ..."

Just got wind of Justin Bieber throwing eggs. Maybe the band should try that......

brywool wrote:Sales do not necessarily equate with quality (especially in music) and really, I could give a flying fuck what Journey's sales are today. Do I like it? Yeah. Am I gonna pay to see them? "Sales do not necessarily equate with quality" but does equate with keeping you afloat and talked about by someone. Since they are spiraling downward, they probably give a "flying ...." what sales are today"- zip. They have had every conceivable chance to move forward, but have been unable to capitalize on it in the long run. Journey continuing on without Steve Perry was to be a "slam" on Perry, but it did not work out that way, for they cannot produce anything new or long-lasting with constant soundalikes and/or karaokes. And, you might say they have watered down or "tarnished" the legacy so really no where for them to go but on the road annually in triple packages singing the "Greatest Hits" till the well (people) dries up.

Do you remember these word: "Don't crack the stone. Call it anything you want but don't call it Journey." With "DSB" blazing a few years back, they could have been on top now with the real voice, Steve Perry, and probably actually selling new music (would have to if SP was there), instead of spiraling downward in postings of perfecting their karaoke even more with rehearsals.

Gladly Steve Perry ignored that "PPV invitation." Guess that guitar player wanted some buzz, so was reaching for SP's coattail again since he could not wipe out him.

brywool wrote:By the way dude, I've watched your act for a few months now- grow some f'ing class. This is a cool group here and there's no need to be such an ass.

"By the way dude, I've watched [Journey's] act for a [while] now" and see that they tried to wipe out Steve Perry, but now find themselves "grasping for straws" for the spotlight, $350,000 donation for Philippines' typhoon and released tour schedule simultaneously, and the PPV ("help us to help Arnel" NS 2014) that no one bought. As Steve Perry would say - "You're as big as your next hit," (1984), but he has retired and Journey has not had a hit since he left.

Enjoy the co-headlining, triple package "Greatest Hits" Show of 2014, and stop expecting the karaoke band to do the improbable and probably the impossible. "After all these years" what have they done, and what are they playing.....

Do you have a link showing that there was a Journey solo tour last year? Yes or no? Pretty simple.

Kor'n wrote:Perry's RETIRED - "There is more to life than singing and touring." SP 9/2013.

Nothing in that quotation confirms he is officially retired. To the contrary, nearly every year he throws dipshit fans like you a bone and says he's working on this or that, and how misses the stage blah blah.

Kor'n wrote:Nice that the music he helped create "goes on and on" since karaoke Journey has been unable to create anything without him.

One soundtrack single, one EP, and four full length LPs since 1998 is not bad at all. Many of their peers, like Styx, have put out far less. Neal, unlike Perry, doesn't like to rest on his creative laurels. The word "Journey" connotes movement, not swimming naked in a vault of gold coins from royalties collected on "Oh Sherrie" being used in a feminine deodorant commercial. Somewhere along the way, Perry lost the fire. ROR showed me that he had lost his mind.

Again, do you have a link showing that there was a Journey solo tour last year? Andrew welcomes diverse opinions, but not lying assholes. Better enjoy your stay while it lasts, punk ass queer.

"Dismissed" = Fired. When you're "Dismissed from a job, you have been FIRED. Neal, I believe, was trying to show some class and not say "we fired him". But in essence, that's what happened. Cain called him and said "We're moving on". Sugarcoat it all you want, but that's being "let go". (Fired)

Kor'n wrote:Too bad the Perryless Journey cannot play that "NEW music."

You'll get no argument from me on that. They DID play more Eclipse in Europe, but either the US doesn't have the attention span, or Journey doesn't have the backbone to stand by it and play it. When I saw them, I got Resonate and City of Hope. The tour prior to that had them playing a ton of Revelation stuff, which was cool. I'm not a hater of the old material at all, but to just drive it into the ground like that is just a drag. Also, as has been said before, I think that mgmt dropped the ball on promotion for Eclipse- or Journey just thought "Hey, Revelation did pretty well, we should be okay" and didn't push it. To me, it's a missed opportunity. There are MUCH worse albums by bands/entertainers today that sold much better than Journey did. It's a different time and Journey-type of music isn't really going to light the world on fire. Perry or not I believe. If Perry puts out an album, it will be interesting to see how well it does in today's market (or lack thereof).

Kor'n wrote:They should really be thankful for AP, for he will do anything they ask of him (excepting moving them forward w/writing hit songs, etc. but guess not asking the impossible)

Arnel is a team player but he's also the new guy in the band. I'm sure Arnel, because he's got a lot of humility, would be the first guy to say "Hey, Jon and Neal are the main songwriters in Journey- how am I supposed to compete with that?". Steve Perry brought a ton of writing chops to the band. Nobody is dogging his contribution at all.

Kor'n wrote:Kinda "douchey" like the band in their failed efforts to wipe out Steve Perry...huh... :?:

Dude, do you know how many YEARS the band waited for Steve to make a decision? They couldn't just be left in limbo forever. At some point, you have to move on. If one of the guys can't move on, then he needs to stay behind. At the time of TBF, Steve's voice would not have handled a tour. That statement has been out there for years now. The only one that won't admit that is Steve. That coupled with the hip injury (if it's to be believed) meant an indefinite time that Journey (who'd already sat around for years waiting for Steve) wouldn't be able to work. The BAND (after all, that's what it is) wanted to work. Steve couldn't commit, so they moved on. I don't see them trying to whipe him out at all. In fact, it's a topic in each interview, he's on their website, he handles their reissues, etc. Look at Styx and Dennis DeYoung. Styx has categorically tried to whipe Dennis from their history. He's not on the website and they've tried to make it like he was never in the band. THAT is the wrong way to go.

Kor'n wrote:Been doing the soundalike/karaoke thing since Steve Perry's departure, and now you hand-full of supposed hardcore fans want to hear something different knowing since 1998 what the band has had to do to stay somewhat afloat.

That's funny. On one hand, people piss and moan because he sounds like Perry. On the other hand, people piss and moan because he doesn't sound like Perry. He's in an impossible situation. You can't please everyone.
The dude's got his own voice. He doesn't sound like Perry. He's got Perry's Escape range, but the two sound much different and approach the songs much differently too.

And you're judging JOURNEY??? GTFOOH.
That's not TALENT. That is MARKETING.

I for one am also glad Perry didn't show up at Neal's PPV. Nobody here that I can see, is calling that "good for Journey". The fans seem to be in pretty unanimous agreement that that whole thing was just too weird.

The current version does nothing to hurt Journey's legacy. If Neal is doing what he's doing, that's his issue.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
