Robert Fleischman played a critical role in the history of Journey, even if he ultimately gave up the job of frontman to Steve Perry for 1978′s Infinity.

Over the course of the previous fall, he co-wrote three key tracks for that album — including “Anytime” and “Wheel in the Sky” — before departing. Both became album-rock staples for Journey, with “Wheel in the Sky” charting to No. 57 on the Billboard charts. [Stream it!: Robert Fleischman's original demo of "Wheel in the Sky."]

Fleischman also contributed to “Winds of March,” though his only officially released vocal with Journey was “For You,” found on the Time3 box set. He’s remained close with the group, though. Journey’s Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie appeared on Fleischman’s solo debut, 1979′s Perfect Stranger.

Fleischman went on to front Vinnie Vincent’s Invasion, and also worked with Foreigner’s Kelly Hansen over the years before founding a new band called the Sky in 2009. The group — rounded out by bassist Steve Barber, guitarist Brady Cole, drumer Andre LaBelle and guitarist Ryan Lake — is set to release its second album Majestic on March 5, 2014.

Fleischman says his varied music career — and a chance to live with the Sky’s debut disc — has added a new complexity to their forthcoming follow up.

“The writing on Majestic varies in song style: There’s some pop acoustic songs, piano with an orchestral sound — much more atmospheric,” Fleischman tells Kiss Army Argentina. “I didn’t care if it rocked, as long as it was a great song, and I think we have that. Whereas on the last one, to me it was like one flavor only. Majestic just has a lot more variety and different styles of music.”
Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile, knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux, gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

I got my preorder in. It should be released on Mar. 5th and my copy will be autographed. I like the Sky's first album, which I also bought. Robert Fleischman keeps in touch with friends and fans on Facebook. He's a nice guy.

Here is a song from the album, although not the final master:
