Chalfant sings DSB 04/15/14

His voice has held up nicely over the years. Maybe it's a good thing he never landed the Journey gig. His vocal chords would probably be thick with nodes like barnacles on the hull of a pirate ship. In this clip, Chalfant is appearing on the behalf of a local Tea Party group. Maybe Cain & Schon never wanted him in the band because he insisted that radio on the tour bus always be set to Rush Limbaugh? Either way, he clears most of the highs on this tune with ease.

KC also sang "God Bless America." Wow. About as good a version as I've ever heard.

Chalfant's great, he's melodic but has a raw quality to his style. Definitely would've blown up Journey again if he'd gotten the chance to record with them.

Some of his rarer stuff was on The VU album.

These things are always subjective, but I don't hear "living in a lonely world" or "south Detroit" as anything but pitchy. His is not a pure voice the way Perry's or Arnel's is. The Journey catalog would kill this guy after one tour.

I envy anyone that can do this song at all. Tough tune.
However, If this was Arnel, people'd be reaming him for the lowered key, the flubbed lyrics, the pitchiness, how it's not like SP, etc. Because it's Kevin, he gets a free pass on all that stuff I guess.
Journey tunes used for the Tea Party?
The horror.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Tough to say as Arnel has a bazillion performances of it, KC has a minor few that I can view/hear.
I was more or less pointing out that KC gets a free pass. Not so Pineda. My point is not so much to dog KC.
The dude's a great singer. My point is that had this been an Arnel performance (just like this), he'd be crucified by the MR community.

I'm typically with TNC on Kevin. Vocally, I don't think any other candidate was quite as viable to replace Perry. The range and tonality were all there, plus a screamer's edge when he wanted to; listen to The Storm's debut CD, fucker could croon like Perry one second and loose a raw Halfordian shriek the next.

But that ship has sailed. He's old and though his voice has held up very well, there's no way he could handle the rigors of fulltime touring now.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Bingo. Honestly I really didn't know what he looks like. It's not just the voice not being 100 percent, image is everything now we know why they didn't hire him. Perry still looks great !

For an older guy I think Kevin is showing his age but so what? This website is becoming infested with fawning Teenbeat jerk-off weirdos. Yeh dude, Perry looks great. Can't sing a whit, but boy oh boy what a well preserved stud. Is Journey a rock band or a casting agency for Celias ads? Herbie wanted him in. End of story. Every decision made by Neal & Jon on their own has been horrible. Maybe if Kev got picked he would also have a personal entourage of Botox injectors, like some other aging privileged rockers.

Justifiably so, huh.... After all, he spent his life learning to copy every other artists' stuff, and the band so praised his karaoke skills..

"He slammed dunk Survivor," ... "'he made something out of 'Nothing at All' Air Supply..'" ... "He did Steve Perry eerily flawless." - Did I get right???

They (band) are the ones who touted his [insulting] karaoke skills, and now he's been deemed a karaoke that apparently does little else... Of course, he sets up his charities, but not with monies from his own creativeness...so guess he should be since he's copying the hardwork of others. Robin Hood needs to earn his pass.

By the way, he got a pass...."He wanted to write on the entire album but was too busy with other commitments." Cain /2011 Out karaoking and "too busy" to write completely on the BIGGEST (No GHs) album of his life....

This isn't even a real quote. Wherever did Cain say this? Is this what it has come to? Just pulling facts straight out of your fissured cornhole? Truly sad. Your hyperbolic focus on Arnel and broken English seems to indicate that (maybe) you are one of his former Zoo bandmates. Don't be mad that one of your musical brothers has achieved fame and fortune, little dude.

Oh look we have the charging name caller again that NEVER will be a grammatical technician. I don't post what I have not read, but then again I DO NOT have to justify anything to you, huh..... Now find something else to do other than that silliness you just posted there. Now, that's "truly sad" and "don't be mad" with my asking you to try, just try putting together something that makes sense and falls within a category belonging to the English language, not "zoo" talk.

Lol. Sounds like someone has been found out and is deflecting. It is one thing to post personal opinions. It is another to straight-up lie about what artists say. It is hard to have integrity as an anonymous poster on a public message forum. But damn, you really take the gold when it comes to ethically-challenged Perry-obsessed losers. Jonathan Cain has been a good friend to this site. He broke the news that Perry was out of the band right here on MR.com. I STRONGLY doubt Cain or Andrew approve of falsified BS quotes. Provide a link or fuck off.

Hello, on what planet do you or that brain of yours reside......."Who died an appointed you Chairman of the Board." Now listen up, again, I DO NOT have to justify ANYTHING to you, a person who seemingly is lacking in every sensible fiber that exists. Now, please continue to post silliness like that crappy stuff you just posted, again, and "sooner or later" you may get it through that "thick head of yours" that your opinions or thoughts (scary) DO NOT matter, and you certainly DO NOT frighten anyone. Do you have any more gold or silver you need to give out..... But, you may have gotten the message that I DO NOT take orders from YOU....."The Noble" Contender.

Where is this quote from, Korn? Your hysterical reaction is disproportionate to my modest request. I don't think it is too much to ask for posters to document sources. You sound very much like a feral woodland animal trapped in a cage. Hmm, could it be that you know the walls are closing in and the clock is winding down? Yep. You're on borrowed time. No matter what quotes anyone did or didn't make, it'd be delusional to think Friga and Fro would let Arnel write on the "entire" album. Cain didn't even want the kid in the band.

Yeah, let's get back to Chalfant. He's got more songs in his sock drawer than either Perry or Arnel.
