So What's Really Going On With Steve?

3rd time on stage in the last month. Clearly he's got the bug again. And now talking about his late girlfriend saying she wanted to hear his voice again. The "overrated" comment. This seems like a turning point. A different mind set than we've seen or heard in any of the interviews during the last two decades.
What say y'all?

He will be back. He seems to be developing a renewed confidence in being on stage again. I expect there will actually be a new album of some sort, but I am not anticipating anything that sounds like Journey. I'm fine with that.

I think a Perry/Journey reunion might happen, but it will be a shame in a way too see Arnel leave. Arnels done very well, and his story is very inspiring.

Honestly, I think some of this could be in preparation/anticipation of a RRHOF induction of the band. I think SP realizes that he may indeed be faced with the opportunity to sing with Journey again at some point for that event (yes, I do think Journey is going to get in at some point) and he wants to be ready...wonder, realistically, what songs he could still pull off (in close to the original key) if they ever did "reunite" for that one-off...

Talking about the RnRHOF, look who got in the last few years ...bands that have waited for years and years ...their fans basically given up ... Kiss, Rush. And, then, last year (Heart, H & O's -- basically, Journey's contemporaries)... maybe, this year, Foreigner, Boston, Chicago...hopefully, Journey not too far behind.
You know, all this buzz created by SP will only add to the excitement for the voters ... this may be the push that'll get Journey in. And, like Tomu suggested in the above post, Steve is "practicing" for his big shot up on the HOF stage, with his old band. Heck, he's already singing very well the 3 songs that'll fit in perfectly in the program -- Lights, OA, L-T-S . People will probably want DSB, but I don't know if Steve should take on that song at this time of his life.

Boy if they get inducted I sure hope they don't play that setlist. That is a putrid trio of songs.

EMatt, you don't like those songs??? But, but those 3 are the staples ... the Band, in all their incarnations, have played in every one of their shows, haven't they?
Knowing SP being his "own worst critic," when there are a hundred songs in the catalog, he chose these 3 to sing must be he felt he could deliver his best effort. And, if that's what he most feel comfortable with singing, that's what Journey will perform at the ceremonies. I think

.

I like the guitar in Lights. Vintage Neal on a Strat is hard to match - great tone and playing. Besides that, the song doesn't do a ton for me. Never has, although I liked it a bit more before I heard it a zillion times.
As for OA and LTS, both are vapid, terrible songs in every respect. I hate LTS the most of the three though.
If they ever got inducted, why not make at least one of them Just the Same Way or Feeling That Way/Anytime? That saves Perry's pipes, lets Rolie shine a bit, and those are just solid rockers that would go over well at the Induction Ceremony Concert.

No, I actually agree with everything you just said. For us long-time fans, any of the DD has been overplayed ... a hundred times in our heads. It would be nice to hear the SP/GR duets ... Gregg still has that smooth singing voice. I just think everything will be catered to SP and what he feels like doing.

I don't think that will happen, as much as I wish I were wrong. If it did though, I think SP would be a guest singer for a song or two, and Arnel doing the rest of it.

Even that would be more than what we've gotten in many years. It would be something to treasure.

It would, that would be bucket list stuff for me. Just one walk on, video cameras rolling. I would be great with that.

Ahh forums. Where people like to act as though their personal opinions are facts and their tastes are reflective of what's good and bad

It's obvious the these little mini sets are designed to slowly bring him along to get him back into shape mentally, physically, and vocally - in terms of live performances. I would not doubt that Perry adds in and switches out songs to gauge what he can still decently perform, so that he can slowly build up a decent size playlist to perform. I would not doubt that Perry winds up, possibly, opening up for the Eels (as oddly as that sounds) - not on an every date tour, but a handful of dates; kind of like what he appears to be doing when he comes on for the encore. It's pretty smart. Steve is getting his feet wet but not diving in head first. No pressure on him - it's all on his time and his decision.
