inside the Cotton Bowl during the hottest day of the decade for the first real
stadium rock show in the south. The success of the Texxas Jam led to a
decade long of stadium rock shows and launched the careers of new bands

Perry's good natured bonhomie & the world’s most charmin smile,knocked fans off their feet. Sportin a black tux,gigs came alive as he swished around the stage thrillin audiences w/ charisma that instantly burnt the oxygen right out of the venue.TR.com

Alright...
Somebody tell there has ever been a better lead rock vocalist than SMFP in 1978!
No wussy "in ear" monitors or state of the art PA systems used then baby!

There's about a 45 sec clip of Journey on stage.
Ross and Neal's comments pop up a few times.
Funniest part is Ann and Nancy Wilson telling
how they met SP the 1st time, while laying
on the floor of their trailor.
Not a lot of film shown on band performances
but if you were there it might be worth the 5.99

I went to the one in '83. Good lord it was hot! Sitting in these dinky little stadium seats amongst thousands of beer swilling sweatbags. It was greatness! 
Styx, Sammy, Nugent, Triumph and Uriah Heep.
Nugent came running out on stage, slipped on a wet spot and landed square on his shoulder blades, never missing a beat on the guitar.
The stage had a scaffolding which stood some 80 feet tall. Sammy climbed it all the way to the top. Even said hello to a lighting guy stationed way up in the rigging. lol
The highlight was when Sammy, Ted and Rik Emmett did "Whole Lotta Love". It was terrific.
The lowlight was that Styx was doing Kilroy that tour. Domo arigato this! I hate that song!

Sammy AND Rik vocalizing together? Ye gods! They could have sung the ingredients on the side of a can of mixed nuts and I bet it would've sounded amazing!

That Behind the Music on Styx was bullshit. The footage they showed was not fro the Texxas Jam. It was from the Kilroy video when Dr. Righteous (the bad guy) came out and fans were booing him. Styx rocked the Texxas Jam. Tommy Shaw is not one to tell much truth. Whatever comes out of his mouth fits his agenda - nothing more - the truth be dammed.

It was just a lowlight for me. It was well received by the crowd as a whole as I remember.

My point was simply that SP was nearly flawless and on pitch at stage volume levels far exceeding those of today. He'd of absolutely KILLED it if he had today's sound technology back in 1978!
