Will Journey's feud between Schon and Perry start another Chain Reaction?

By now, Steve Spears has returned home from his cruise that featured a VIP concert with Journey. \Will that concert rejuvenate our fearless SIT80's host and set off a chain reaction of stories about Steve's love affair with the band?

Steve has posted a review of the Journey concert and the set list for the Carnival concert. Hits only? Mostly, but a few deep cuts as well, but missing was one of my favorite Journey deep tracks Chain Reaction. A cut off the 1983 Frontiers album that spawned four Top 40 hits and has sold over 8 million copies, Chain Reaction was never released as a single; however the band did treat their fans to a video. After the teasing they have taken for their Separate Ways video, I am proud to say the boys from the bay decided to try it again with another ridiculous cheeky video with Chain Reaction.

Journey - Chain Reaction

Video highlights include Journey decked out in tuxedos and fighting over lady mannequins. While Arnel Pineda has done a fine job replacing Steve Perry as lead singer, the snippets of Perry strutting his stuff and arguing with Neal Schon will make you nostalgic for their glory ‘80s days. For those who have read Steve's concert review, temperatures still seem frosty for a Perry-Schoen reunion, but hope still is alive that a chain reaction will take place and there will be one last reunion, even if it is a cash grab.

Sounds like Neal was joking and this guy is making a mountain out of a San Francisco pitcher's mound.

OPEN WOUNDS: Much is made among Journey fans about the feud between guitarist Neal Schon and former lead singer Steve Perry. Lately, the two have actually been exchanging compliments publicly, but that came to an unexpected end on Thursday. During his introduction of "Lights," Schon mentioned that he and Perry were currently arguing over who wrote the song, essentially a love ballad for the band's hometown of San Francisco. "(Perry) says I only wrote 25 percent, but it wouldn't sound this good with guitars if I only wrote 25 percent." But what's rock 'n' roll without a little unnecessary drama.

Joking or not, Neal has always come across as petty and childish with his quotes...especially, as directed toward SP. Neal, grow up, will ya? You're not still that kid rocker, anymore. You're a mature, middle-aged man ... try acting like one.

We know how SP’s voice/tone, therefore, interpretation changed year to year as those songs were created originally. For Arnel to be duplicating that voice/tone to each of these songs, 7-8 years into his tenure, delivering all in the present alternate universe, is truly amazing.

Here’s Faithfully and L-T-S from Puerto Rico. I never thought much of his rendition of these songs before. But, now, to me, he’s very close to the original.

The band still sounds good. Why don't they record something?

I’m beginning to think Neal has an insecurity side that makes him say/do what he does. Well, in this case, a fan gets on Neal’s own FB page and throws this statement at him?!? I’d be upset, too.

The truth is neither would have been successful (in fame and fortune sense) without the other? Before JC came along, I think we can surmise that with all these Journey SP/NS collaborated songs, Neal brought the music and Steve the lyrics. Patiently was great, and Lights was a masterpiece. Add the voice and guitar playing. Each brought something to the table, and they made the other great. The rest, as they say, is history.

Absolutely. Also, Steve has said this very thing about them bringing out the best in each other. It makes no sense whatsoever for Neal to react this way. What reason in the world could Neal have to be so insecure? He needs to give it a break and accept what is.

I always wonder what NS will say that will set fire to the relationship. I don't think NS suffers fools at all. He just seems a man who moves ahead without paying too much attention to the right or the left or wonders how his behavior effects others. He seems to lead with his head and creativity. SP seems the opposite who spends so much time wondering how his life will effect himself, others and the world. He leads with his heart and creativity. How they came together to create the music is a wonder since on the outside they appear to be so different but in their hearts they seem to be kindred spirits. To me I view their statements about one another as not totally unexpected just feel both keep their union and their breakup alive as a means to keep their musical legacy breathing.
