"Best of" polls -- and the supposedly definitive lists they produce -- have prompted many a dinner-table war and drop-dead silent treatment. When the topic is rock music, watch out: Fiery critics and fans of all tastes should prepare themselves for the eruption of World War III. Monster audio products asked 1,000 Americans to name their picks for best bands of all time. See who edged out the competition below.

10. Bon Jovi

Founded in 1983 in Sayreville, N.J., Bon Jovi released several albums and made a few lineup changes, and finally struck gold with their third effort, "Slippery When Wet," in 1986. Led by singer Jon Bon Jovi, the group also featured guitarist Richie Sambora (who left in 2003), keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres. Branded the American band, Bon Jovi sold more than 125 million albums.

9. Journey

Initially known as the Golden Gate Rhythm Section, the San Francisco-based band was formed with the assistance of Santana manager Herbie Herbert, who had the idea of creating a guitar-centric supergroup. Journey made several changes early on, adding Gregg Rollie as a lead singer and later, frontman Steve Perry, who created songs like "Don't Stop Believin' " and "Faithfully" with Neal Schon, Ross Valory, George Tickner and Prairie Prince.

8. Pink Floyd

The English rock band launched in 1965 with members Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright, advancing the progressive rock movement with their psychedelic sound. Barrett, the group's lead singer and guitarist, left the group after battling mental illness. Pink Floyd's top albums include "The Dark Side of the Moon," "Wish You Were Here," and "Animals.

7. Queen

Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor contributed to the progressive rock and heavy metal movement of the 1970s, coming together as the English band, Queen to produce some of the era's most memorable songs including "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions.

6. Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac was born as a blues band in the 1960s and later transformed into a hard rock band throughout the '70s with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer and Christine McVie. As the sound changed, so did the faces as they added Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks.

5. Eagles

The L.A. based band formed by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner added Joe Walsh and Don Felder tallied six number one albums and five top singles.

4. Aerosmith

The bluesy hard rock group from Boston was originally called the Jam Band and consisted of guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton. Later on Steven Tyler, Joey Kramer and Ray Tabano joined the fold. Tabano was replaced a year later by Brad Whitford

3. Led Zeppelin

Starting off in England as the Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin made history as one of the first bands to sync blues with heavy metal, generating a new-age psychedelic sound. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jon Bonham brought a unique element to the music scene in 1968.

2. The Rolling Stones

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood became a signature part of the ceaseless British invasion of the 1960s. The group altered the idea of rock and roll with a string of successful albums including "Let it Bleed," "Sticky Fingers" and "Exile on Main Street."

Beatlemania was the biggest thing going when the boys from Liverpool played the "Ed Sullivan Show" on Feb. 9, 1964.

1. The Beatles

The rising 1960s quartet from Liverpool left an everlasting mark and set the stage for all bands to follow. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were simply unparalleled, selling more than a billion records and counting.

I would move Journey up a step to #8, but other than that, pretty much my picks too. That being said, I rarely (if ever) listen to most of these bands today.... The exceptions being the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac...but I listen to Journey almost every day.

I agree, the list is pretty accurate. I too would move Journey up a few places. My list would probably be more like:

10. Bon Jovi
9. Chicago
8. Aerosmith
7. Journey
6. Queen
5. Fleetwood Mac
4. Eagles
3. Led Zeppelin
2. Rolling Stones
1. Beatles

*Could also add Van Halen and Foreigner in there as well. Also surprised not much love for Chicago. They are only behind the Beach Boys in terms of charted billboard singles, having hits in each decade from the 60s-90s. Pretty incredible stat.
