Deen Castronovo --

the current drumer for Journey -- was arrested for assault after an early morning domestic dispute ... TMZ has learned. Salem Oregon PD tells us they got called to a home ... which they believe was Castronovo's ... around 9 AM Sunday. Police entered the home and arrested him without incident. It's still unclear who else was involved in the incident. Castronovo was booked for assault, coercion, and menacing. He's been released on bail. ·Associated Press

Journey drummer Deen Castronovo has been released on bail following a domestic violence arrest in Oregon.

The 50-year-old drummer was arrested Sunday and charged with misdemeanor assault and menacing.

Deputy District Attorney Jean Kunkle wrote in court papers that Castronovo knowingly caused physical injury to the woman.

Castronovo's attorney, Jeffrey Jones, did not immediately return a phone message.

A plea hearing has been scheduled for June 30. In the meantime, the drummer is not allowed to have contact with the woman.

Castronovo has been with Journey since 1998, when he replaced Steve Smith.

Castronovo made news earlier this year when he donated $10,000 to an Oregon high school after an arsonist burned down its band room.

SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — Journey drummer Deen Castronovo was arrested Sunday in an early morning domestic dispute, officials said.

Salem police were called to Castronovo’s home around 9 a.m. Sunday, Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. He reportedly refused to come out of the house, but once officers came inside he surrendered.

According to court documents, Castronovo, “unlawfully and intentionally attempt[ed] to place [the victim] in fear of imminent serious physical injury by words or conduct.” The incident was described as constituting domestic violence.

The drummer was booked on assault, coercion and menacing charges, Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.

This isn’t the drummer’s first run in with the law — in 2012, he was also arrested in Salem for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Earlier this year, Castronovo donated $10,000 to South Albany High School after an arsonist burned down the school’s band room.

“I wasn’t great in school but I was really good in my band class, and that was the reason I went to school, really,” the rock star told students. “The devastation you guys have seen, it was heartbreaking.”

Journey is currently on tour. Their next concert is scheduled for Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl, although it is not clear if Castronovo will be playing drums.

Omar Hakim will be drumming on the upcoming shows and the upcoming Canadian Tour.

From Facebook:
"Journey has made the decision to have Omar Hakim play drums for the band’s upcoming U.S. concerts (Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, June 20 and the Stadium of Fire in Provo, Utah on Saturday, July 4), as well as the band's Canadian tour (July 6 – August 3), due to Deen Castronovo’s pending issues."

It's the right thing to do replacing Deen as Journey's drummer until his issues are resolved Journey is a business that relies on the money that it's fan base brings in, and as we all know a huge section of that fan base is female. This is just my opinion, but as a woman I don't want my hero to be zero by being weak on responding to abuse of females, or anyone for that matter. Way to go Neal you're the man. Journey on my brother.

Yes, top-notch drummer too. He'll bring more of a Steve Smith vibe to the band...more of a funk/jazz groove than straight on rock.

Maybe, but can he sing Mother Father, or Still They Ride? I'm majorly disappointed.  :? First time I get to see the band, and this has to happen. Poor Deen,I hope he's not gone for good.

I agree it's a disappointment but seems he screwed himself out of the job for a bit while he is sidetracked with things. Hard to believe that you get an opportunity like this and then you mess things up. Hope it's not too much that he has to clean up and that he can get back on track real soon.

But BRAVO for the new drummer who I hope knows what to do with this opportunity!

Hakim is a well-seasoned and successful drummer who's played with a huge list of musicians (Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Sting, Madonna, David Bowie...just to name a few). It's just as much of an opportunity for Journey to have him behind the kit as it is for him to play with them. Definitely a good choice!!!

Unless maybe they could get Steve Smith back in the band, I really hope that they are not replacing Deen on a full time basis!?!?

Likewise - my first time too and I was really looking forward to the possibility of Deen singing a couple of songs. Oh well, seems like the right thing to do, I'm just glad for the opportunity to finally see them. I'm sure most of the people attending the concert here won't know the difference, probably still think Steve Perry's the singer too

I would like to say innocent until proven guilty but 2 domestic violence arrests in 3 years kinda throws that out the window. Hopefully a forced vacation convinces him to pull his head out of ass and get it on straight.

Just leaves a bad impression of the band having a member who has been accused of assaulting women. Not once but twice! I don't care if he can sing the songs; I'd look at him and think…hmm, that's the guy who's been accused of domestic violence a few times. Nobody wants that kind garbage attached to their name. Perhaps he can clean it up and the charges will be dropped but you just can't clear the memories of everyone about what's been in the news and online. I think it might haunt him for some time.

Journey Drummer Booted Off Tour Following Arrest

6/18/2015

http://www.tmz.com/2015/06/18/journey-n ... placement/

Journey's got a new beat for the rest of its tour -- the band kicked drummer Dean Castronovo to the curb after his arrest over the weekend ... but the guy filling in has a serious resume.

TMZ broke the story ... Castronovo was busted last weekend for an alleged domestic violence incident at his home in Oregon. It was his 2nd such arrest, and Journey -- currently in the middle of a tour -- decided to pull the rip chord.

The band announced veteran skins man Omar Hakim would take Castronovo's place immediately, starting with their Hollywood Bowl show on Saturday. It's unclear if Castronovo is out of the band permanently.

Deen's backing vocals are key at this point too. Sad to see him get 'booted'. People forget in this police state we live in, a person is innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately, the opposite seems to always be the perception. If he did actually harm another person, he should do jail time. However, some of these new domestic violence laws are crazy. In many states, you can be arrested for practically nothing. Best of luck to the substitute, Omar! Deen will be missed.

Navarro, with all respect to tour feelings about the law, here is a sobering fact,

"The number of American troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 and 2012 was 6,488. The number of American women who were murdered by current or ex male partners during that time was 11,766. That's nearly double the amount of casualties lost during war."

Source http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/2 ... 59776.html

The police are not to blame here, they didn't just decide to show up to Deen's house. The fact is the laws are there to protect everyone and to provide a cooling off period for both parties. If the police were to simply leave, with any indication or allegation of an act of domestic violence, and someone was seriously hurt or killed after they leave the scene, guess who is going to be held liable? The risks are simply too great for all parties not to intercede by enforcing the laws of the state. What Deen appears to need, indicated by two incidents, is professional help. I don't know if Deen did anything wrong, but after two events, where there is smoke there is likely fire. Domestic violence, in any form, is simply unacceptable and to make excuses or turn a blind eye helps no one, including Deen.

deen's mug shot speaks volumes to the depth of issues the man has...it's time for him to be out of rock and roll, off the road and in treatment for whatever demons he has...
