There is a lot more than Mother Father here! Mother Father begins around 5:30.

I think Arnel sounds great here. He has grown a lot as a singer. He uses much more restraint now, where before he tended to over sing and hold the notes longer than was necessary or desirable. He strained just a bit on Mother Father, and I still like Deen more on that one.

The symphony was a really nice touch on Faithfully, Open Arms, and Who's Crying Now. I hope a better quality recording of these surfaces because I would definitely like to hear more of the symphonic Journey performances.

There is supposed to be a DVD of this coming out. The show was like 2 1/2 hours. I'll be looking forward to it!

Get Freemake video recorder and save these performances. It is your personal protection of when they take them down. These performances were great.

Steve Perry has got to be extremely jealous that he was unable to participate in this event. I remember reading an interview with him many years ago when he said that he would love to sing his music with a full orchestra.

I have to say this is the best Arnel has ever sounded. And although I love Deen's singing I think Hakims style fits the band better.

Random thoughts:

Wow. Sounds great. Wish they had more time to prepare for a show with the orchestra (maybe a few integrated solos from orchestra players, orchestral only intros or outros to songs, etc). Pretty amazing though with what I believe was only one day's rehearsal time.

A little more enthusiasm/showmanship by the orchestra and choir members would have been nice. Again probably would have been better with more rehearsal time. Camera angles could make a difference in the final version here too.

Playing with an orchestra would have been a great time to pull out the very rare "Little Girl".

Neal's dad would have been a great to have around still to help with this as he did with string arrangements way back when.

I think I saw more smiles on Jon's face in these clips than I have seen from him in years.

Arnel sounds great.

Great job by Hakim filling in on a moments notice. The man has been in Schon's "circle" since the 80s though.

And yes, wouldn't it have been epic if Perry could have showed up in his own "backyard" for at least one tune.

Sucks for Deen to have missed this, especially if a DVD was/is in the works.
P.S. You guys aren't sensing Arnel is having trouble with the upper register?

He is struggling at the highest end of Perry's range, but he probably would have been the day he joined the band. For the most part he sounds really good. Deen is really missed in MF. Arnel is respectable, but Deen vocally is in the sweet spot for the Journey catalog.

I hope they do make an album from it. It was a special night and some very good performances. Really liked the orchestra touch. It was sad Deen wasn't there.

I saw a post where Jonathon didn't want to spend the $300,000 it would take to make a DVD. I really hope I heard wrong!

Just another thought! I'm sure Journey's setlist was sent to to the orchestra weeks prior. I think I heard they had a 12 hour rehearsal. Kudos to Arnel for pulling off what should have been Deen's part and not taking his usual break. Also big kudos for Omar! I know I love that little shit, he always just does a great job whenever he is needed.

I love how the whole band seems to know how great this night is. I noticed that the orchestra seems to make Neal stick more to the script and play the songs with reserve and taste and I like that. The solo from this song is simple and beautiful as it is and has never benefited from playing it faster or tinkering with it. I also think Journey music translates into full orchestra really well. That just goes to show how excellent Journey's melodies really are.

Majestic, that link has been taken down. Up above that is why I recommended Freemake, to get a copy before they get taken down. ;)

Kudos to the whole band, Hakim included. Arnel may possibly have felt strained at the top of Mother Father but he didn't let it hinder his performance. He did a fantastic job.

I especially loved WYLAW. It was awesome how the music just flowed in the orchestra setting, much as it did in the original video. What a night!!!

I hope a DVD is, indeed, in the works and that Cain didn't veto this over the cost. Hopefully, that was just a rumor. What better tribute to their legacy than a DVD of this night?

Then obviously, when you have these clips, you can make your own DVDs. I have hours of entertainment on them. :)

These songs, with this presentation - just captivating. I haven't been this impressed by a Journey show in a long time.

That $300,000 was just the fee they'd have to pay to the Hollywood Bowl to allow them to record it. The cost of putting together a full DVD would be prohibitively expensive so I doubt very much we will see one.

Hopefully that wouldn't apply to an audio release. I'd be happy with a well produced live album of this material. I'd probably only watch the DVD a couple of times, so it isn't as important to me as getting a good album.

Yeah, if there weren't extra cameras during the show (jibs, track cameras at the front, guys on stage, etc.) it isn't happening - you can't just take the house feed for the screens and turn it into a DVD.

I didn't see any cameras or camera guys anywhere in the footage of these videos. It looks like they decided not to film the show afterall.
