That's quite a different aspect to this whole story. Let's see how he pleads in court.

Wow! I hope this is not true, but the accusation alone is enough to end his career. I can't see Deen coming back even if he is found not guilty. Sad turn of events for all involved.

No matter what, considering the charges, it's not looking too good for him.

Just by the mugshot itself, looks like quite a change in his appearance in 2 weeks.
Wishing/hoping the best for him and his family...whatever direction it takes.

To be an employee of NOMOTA you have two basic responsibilities: show up to work on time and don't damage the brand. Right now, Journey has three options.

1) Get Omar to clear his schedule
2) Convince Steve Smith to rejoin
3) Teach Andy Avery how to play drums

I feel like bringing/begging back the classic era drummer would be the best fix for all issues.

If Omar isn't able to commit full-time, I really doubt if Smith would come back full-time. I can't see him giving up his passion of playing jazz, touring the world, playing with world class musicians and teaching clinics to play the dirty dozen night after night. Yes, money talks...but I just don't see him going back at this point. Even if he does some guest appearances, you need a full time drummer in the band to keep everyone else tight. The drum seat shouldn't be a revolving one. There are plenty of talented drummers out there whom I am sure would do backflips and head stands to win that seat.

Grand jury indicts Journey drummer Deen Castronovo on rape, sex abuse allegations

http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-north ... y_dru.html

The charges against Castronovo, 50, are the result of a Salem police investigation that followed an earlier domestic disturbance arrest at his Salem home.

Castronovo was arrested June 14 following a domestic disturbance call and booked into the Marion County Jail on accusations of three counts of fourth-degree assault, menacing, second-degree criminal mischief, unlawful use of a weapon and coercion. He was released on bail.

Following the investigation, Castronovo was accused of first-degree rape, second-degree sexual abuse and fourth-degree assault. Court records say the alleged crimes occurred June 8, six days before the domestic disturbance arrest.
A Marion County grand jury indicted Castronova on Monday afternoon on the more serious charges and he was arrested that night, court records show. He is held without bail at the Marion County Jail.

Journey Drummer Deen Castronovo Jailed on Rape Charge

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSJUNE 30, 2015,
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/06 ... .html?_r=0

PORTLAND, Ore. — The drummer for the classic-rock band Journey sat in jail Tuesday after being indicted on a rape charge two weeks after his domestic violence arrest.

Deen Castronovo, 50, faces new charges of rape and other crimes after a grand jury returned the indictment Monday. He was arrested June 14 in Salem, Oregon, on misdemeanor assault and menacing, then released on bail and ordered to stay away from the female victim.

Castronovo disobeyed by having contact with the woman this past weekend and Monday, leading to three charges of contempt of court, according to the indictment.

The drummer's attorney, Jeffrey Jones, did not immediately return a phone message. He said two weeks ago that his client was deeply saddened by the accusations of domestic violence and confident that no criminal conduct occurred.

The indictment states Castronovo had sexual intercourse with the victim "by forcible compulsion" between June 8 and June 14. He faces felony charges of assault, sexual abuse and unlawful use of a dangerous weapon, which was a knife he carried on June 13, prosecutors say.

Castronovo, who was booked into the Marion County Jail on Monday evening, was scheduled to enter a plea Tuesday afternoon.

Castronovo has been with Journey since 1998, when he replaced Steve Smith — the drummer on the group's best-known songs, including "Don't Stop Believin'."

Journey's Facebook page still lists Castronovo as its drummer, though his legal woes have him sitting out of their shows. The band is scheduled to play in Provo, Utah, on July 4.

Woof, bad timing on the email blast -- Journey Store ad saying "celebrate your freedom" on the same day rape allegations hit your drummer.

Yeah, cya Deen. Even if untrue, I think these allegations are signs of a chronically unhealthy relationship. I'll miss your presence in Journey, but at 50 goddamn years old it's time to get your shit together. No way he stays with the band.

I see that some MORON has a page saying that people should boycott Journey shows because of these ACCUSATIONS.

First of all, Deen is not with the band at the moment. And of more importance, at this point they are only ACCUSATIONS. I don't know if he's innocent or guilty, but neither does the jackass that wants the boycott.

You're not God. And you're not even a judge. Get off your self-righteous pedestal, and let the courts do their job.

Innocence must be assumed until trial regardless. I had a friend accused of rape. He walked into a Target store to use an ATM, left and was arrested on the parking lot. Turned out some unstable girl accused him of attacking her in the bathroom, which he never entered. Store would not turn over video camera footage. It took him a criminal trial and a civil trial to clear himself. The girl and her family showed up for neither. Found out later she was dating a black guy (not that there is anything wrong with that) and trying to hide it from her religious parents.

The point being if a woman accuses someone, no matter how baseless, it's going to cost a lot of legal fees just to prove someone didn't do it.

He may very well be guilty, but it's not for any of us to be putting him on trial. Let the legal process play itself out.

Being indicted by a grand jury doesn't really mean anything at this point, a good lawyer could indict a cheese sandwich.

I'm not really commenting on if he did it or not. It doesn't matter; he didn't just mess things up; it seems he did a good job in destroying his life. I remember when his sister and his mother would come on line and make post on the site. They were ecstatic. They were so happy for the golden opportunity. I don't know if he is or is not an addict but addicts always screw the pooch. Seems no matter how good things are; they find a way to destroy happiness. Maybe he didn't rape the woman; maybe he didn't do those things the police are claiming that he did; but he had it all. Money. Marriage? Status. Fans. And apparently a raging addiction for a few illegal substances it seems. I don't feel any sadness for him; that's the last thing he needs. He needs a great attorney and a program to get himself out of this mess and hoping that his family, his girlfriend or wife turn their back on him while he gets his life together. I can't imagine him coming back to the band for years if ever. As they say, 'I don't have time for this' the next time I'd like to see or hear from him would be the announcement of his entering rehab in another state, pleading the charges down and a few years later letting us know that he's living a good clean life some place far far away from the land of Journey.

I'm not prosecuting the guy. Relax. You don't have to be guilty of rape to hurt a brand - and Journey is a brand. He engages in behavior that becomes public and makes him and those around him look bad. Regardless of the extent of guilt. And that is just a simple fact. I have no idea the scope of his crimes. I just know his behavior harms the band. Can't imagine anyone here disagrees with that.

I agree, his behaviour harms the brand, but he's not the only member of a band to ever get in trouble with the law. Neal hasn't been the greatest role model either! But I'm hoping the band has his back, at least until all the facts come to light. I for one am not ready to write him off just yet.

The only circumstances in which Deen should be permanently replaced as Journey's drummer are if he's found guilty of rape. Or if Journey were already trying to get Steve Smith back in the band (Which was being reported by some) before this latest arrest.

He should not be replaced simply because it doesn't look good for the band, even though he was found not guilty.

With all these charges, I doubt very seriously, even with a good plea, he will escape jail time. I sure hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.
