Only a band with the PR sense of a doorknob - like Journey - would roll out this announcement and just casually pop up Steve Smith's name on the poster. Absolutely ridiculous that they didn't make a bigger deal about it. They don't even mention him in the press release!

I agree, really odd that there was no official announcement or press release.

No official statement on Deen and nothing at all really about Steve Smith. Their PR department has gone AWOL.

Journey Welcome Back Drummer Steve Smith, Announce 2016 Tour With Doobie Brothers

Journey will have another busy year on the concert circuit in 2016 — and they’ll return to the road with drummer Steve Smith, who’s back in the lineup for the first time since the ’90s.

Smith was previously replaced by Deen Castronovo, whose legal and personal issues led to his exit earlier this year. The return of Smith, who played on some of Journey’s best-selling records, offers a permanent solution to a problem the band initially addressed by recruiting session ace Omar Hakim as a temporary fill-in.

The revamped Journey lineup will hit the road for a run of co-headlining summer dates with the Doobie Brothers and special guest Dave Mason, called San Francisco Fest 2016 and due to begin May 12 in Irvine, Calif. The Doobies will be performing with their own new addition: Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne, who’s joined the band often in the studio and will reportedly stay with them on the road throughout 2016.

“It’s gonna be a great summer for fans of Bay Area music, and for guys like us who have the pleasure of teaming up with our good friends from Journey and the Dave Mason Band,” enthused the Doobie Brothers in a statement. “We look forward to taking the stage with Journey. We love their songs, and think we will all complement each other musically. It is going to be a powerful tour. We can’t wait to share it with the fans!”

Prior to embarking on their tour with the Doobie Brothers, Journey are expected to announce another round of shows for early 2016.
Check out the complete list of currently confirmed dates below and visit the band’s website for more detailed

It looks like the Santana side of things will be earlier in the year.

SF Fest 2016 with no SF dates and not even any Nor Cal dates????????? I get the theme, but what about actually playing a show in the area.

I've always liked how Deen speaks so highly of both Steves.

Damn it. I really hoped that a Journey/Santana show would be scheduled for the Cleveland show. The Doobie Brothers and Dave Mason do NOT excite me at all.

Anyone know when tickets go on sale for any of the shows? Especially the Cuyahoga Falls show scheduled for 6/29/16?

Seems December 5 is the popular date

Is anyone else kinda pissed about this? I realize it's still early at this point, but personally I was hoping for an extensive tour with Santana -- one I would've been willing to shell out some bucks for -- considering the build up with Neal and Gregg working with Santana again and wanting to do a co-headlining tour, NOT 5 shows and the possibilities that would afford both bands. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping more dates are added to the current tour announcement as I'd love to be able to see Steve Smith with the band.

Any word on the Santana dates? And will Smith be slated for those too?

I am also scratching my head on the no San Francisco area dates - thinking of going to the vegas show however...

I would have been really pumped up for a Journey/Santana tour.
The Doobie Brothers and Dave Mason does not excite me.

I've never skipped a Journey show in my area. And since I think that Journey will probably be coming to an end within the next few years, I will go to the Cleveland show. But I'm almost to the point of skipping them on that tour. It's nothing but the same damn songs show after show. We've all seen/heard them play the DD a million times over. They need to either give their set list a serious overhaul, or at least team up with Santana with Rolie sitting in with Journey each night. Or best of all, do both of those things.

Just curious, where did you get the presale password? Journey doesn't really have a fan club anymore, just a mailing list which I am on and I haven't received any information yet.
