Got my tickets!

Postby STORY_TELLER » Sun Dec 06, 2015 8:57 am

Super excited to see Steve Smith back with the boys! Got my tickets for their Irvine California show with the Doobies.

Back in '05 I had the pleasure of seeing Smith reunite on stage with Journey at the walk of fame after concert at the House of Blues. He only sat in for two songs, but good LORD the difference in Journey's sound was night and day with Smith on the kit. It wasn't lost on the rest of the band either. You could see it on their faces, as Neal and Ross both turned to Smith as they played. This was the super instrumental rock group Journey, with their chemistry intact. I look forward to experiencing this again across an entire set. Did I mention I'm super excited?

WELCOME BACK STEVE SMITH -- AND THANK YOU NEAL SCHON!!!!

So what are the odds that Neil called Steve Perry and said, "come on Steve,Smith is back. Come sing just 1 song "

Who knows but I bet the temptation to sing with those guys is gonna be hard to resist even if it's only 1 or 2 songs! He's got nothing to prove. It's just for fun! And the emotion alone would be hard to manage and still keep your feet on the floor!

Buy your tickets now because if they do announce Perry is back for this tour, they will double the ticket prices! :D (Just kidding!)

Separate Ways was one of them...I don't remember the other. Aynsley also sat in for Wheel in the Sky.

Separate Ways and the other was Chain Reaction. Blew the doors off that one. Augeri sang it. Dean was sitting behind Smith on the floor watching him pound his own kit with so much glee on his face he looked like a giddy schoolboy (in a good way).

Ansley sat in for wheel in the sky. Fleishman attempted to sing it, but couldn't hit the notes. Augeri had to step in to help him with the high parts. So much for his claims of his 5 octave range in his recent interviews. If he did have it, it was way back when. He certainly didn't have it in 05'.

Those seats are pretty far up there. But the sound in that place is great.

Geez! We paid $100 per ticket for the Irvine CA show, but we were looking for decent seats.

This will be my first show since God knows when. I saw them when Arnel first joined but haven't had the desire to see the dirty dozen tour since. Smith is huge incentive for me. Not just Smith, but the fact that it's the original band who crafted and originated the songs (minus Perry of course).

I know better than to hope for Perry to show up, even for one song. There's no way he shares a stage with any replacement singer, nor should he. I could, however, see Perry (some day) doing some kind of limited solo performances, ala his Eels outing -- and having Neal or Jon join him on stage as a surprise.

I agree he might do some kind of solo performance, but I can't see Neal being on the same stage. Whatever the issue with Neal is, it's not going to go away, IMHO. And that is too bad, really.

It amazes me that there is no footage from that show (audio/video) -- at least none that I'm aware of.

I'm just as surprised as you. It was a helluva night. Really expected there to be some kind of bootleg of that show surfacing on youtube someday, but if you think about it, this was in '05 and the iPhone didn't come out until '07. So it was before the days of everyone and their brother having instant easy video recording access.

It wasn't a prediction so much as what would be the more likely scenario. If there were to be any kind of public performance reunion, I really don't think it would Perry stepping out on stage during a Journey tour. Think of the pressure to perform. Think of the scrutiny after the fact. Who would invite that kind of comparison and debate? No, not going to happen.

If Perry were open to a reunion performance (and I really don't think he is), he would be looking for it to be casual and fun just like it was doing the Eels thing. Nothing advertised. No anticipation. Just a walk on from Neal or Jon for fun. And if it did happen, I believe it would begin and end right there. A one off with an onstage cathartic hug at the end.

Would make one helluva youtube vid, no?

It's what life is all about. I hope he feels able to share with his fans and the band members of Journey all that is love. All the others don't matter. A little bit of happiness goes a long way. As it is said, I honor the place in him where the entire universe already resides.

Indeed, sir, indeed. I'd love to be at a dinner table with those guys, just to hear the stories -- the history -- hear them talk about their influences and their creative process. Enjoy. I'll live vicariously.
