Hah. Love those guys. Check them out on "Any Highway You Want" too. Fun mashup. Lead singer sounds like Chalfant to me (on Journey tunes).

How fun would it be for Neal to tap this guy for a solo album?

They post on FB almost every day, I just assumed they were still playing. If not, it's a shame..they have some awesome songs, and he has a great voice.

Were they actually sued or simply issued a cease and desist? Two very different things.

Can't say I blame Journey. It's their songs, they created them, and no one should profit from them without their permission.

But there are plenty of tribute bands out there, and they are allowed to keep playing. What is the difference?
It gets confusing.

If I had to guess, it's the popularity line. Most tribute bands play bars or (extremely) small venues without great regularity, and the amount of money collected certainly doesn't earn them a living (i.e. they can' t quit their day jobs).

Rock Sugar opened for a number of real bands at festivals and signed a recording contract with a record company. Sounds like they stepped over a line to me.

I think the difference was Rock Sugar was getting paid for Youtube hits, and they sold their music...
