You're assuming the numbers stated are based solely from income derived from the sales of their music. I have to believe a good number of these guys have diversified portfolios -- financial advisers and such who put the money to work for them. (i.e. real estate, stock market investments, etc., etc.)

Reports of Phil Collins losing a significant chunk of his fortune each time he got divorced make me wonder if the amount they have listed could even be accurate. If so, he would be much higher on the list if he had stayed married.
