I suspect there's only so much of this Jon will tolerate. I don't see it happening beyond this year's spate of shows.

Although I do respect the talent and musicianship of Santana, never really cared for their music. There are many bands out there that would be more appealing with a Journey tour such as Toto, Chicago, Boston, Bad Company..etc
However, it would be cool though to see Greg Rolie join Journey for "Just the Same Way and "Anytime".

Which is all that it seems to come down to with Cain anymore.

It would need to be the Santana IV lineup and would be really great if Greg would join Journey on stage and maybe bust out a couple rare oldies (pre-Perry). Interplay of musicians between the two bands is what would make this really something special.

Carlos says Santana IV is the first of a new Schon/Rolie trilogy. Bring it on.

Journey/Journey would be a good tour.
Journey with Gregg Rolie would be part one and they can jam with the early pre-Perry material. Also, they can throw in some of Gregg's later songs such as Just the Same Way, Feeling That Way and Anytime.
Journey with Jon would, of course, be part two. And they would have enough time to reach beyond the dirty dozen.

This is an interesting idea. This would satisfy the hardcore fan, yet be palatable enough for the casual hit-only fans as they could just skip the opening act. I am sure Neal would be up for it.

I actually really like that idea and would definitely be interested in seeing Journey again if they did something like that.

They did this for a bit (without Rolie of course) on the Generations tour and according to Schon it went over like a Lead Balloon.

The key is too bill it as an opening act. They didn't do that with the "evening with/40th anniversary" shows. They played pre-perry tunes during the first half of the show in between other early hits from the pre-cain days and even a couple cain era hits. This got the casual fans going with a few hits and then left them cold with about 10-15min of "break" time right in the middle of the first set.
This idea is more like say the NS's Vortex opening for Journey thing they did not long ago. The casual fan still gets their hit laden full Journey concert, while those that are deeper fans get something special out of the opening act. They could come up with some silly name for the opening act like "Journey Roots" , but don't think that is necessary. Hell, just bill the opener as "special guest". Word of mouth would get around to the diehards of the early Journey.

I would love to see a show where Neal plays with Santana, Gregg plays a couple songs with Journey, maybe a full on jam at the end of the night. However, as the recent shows suggest, I doubt we would see that much interplay between the bands. If that's the case, then why bother? I mean, to me it's kind of a slap in the face to have Gregg Rolie in the building, but have him not come out to do Feeling That Way/Anytime or Just the Same Way. Just a total missed opportunity.
PS - Has anyone else noticed the topic now seems to suggest a tour with Journey and Santa?

Oh great, now we have to hear a bunch of Christmas songs at a Journey concert.

Would pay major $ with Rolie
to hear a couple
Pre Perry songs, especially on a Saturday nite, of a lifetime, and next with Arnel,
not too mention Feeling that way/Anytime, Just the Same way, People and places and Someday soon.

"People And Places" was originally sung by Neal Schon. That's not to say that Rolie couldn't sing it, though.

Don't have time to go find the link right now, but I read an interview on Billboard and it's not looking good for a Journey tour in 2017. Schon wants to put Journey on a hiatus for that year and go full time Santana. He seems to think they have found their magic again and that's where it is for him, in the next year. He also mentioned that Arnel would like a break. Given the lack of life in Cain for some time, this is not that big of a surprise. Could this be the end of Journey......again?
Frankly, I can't see a downside for Neal because Santana is a great draw and he still gets paid. If these guys have that chemistry, it will be great shows. From what I've seen of the reunited Santana, they look to have a good show.

Carlos Santana is going to work his magic and get Steve Perry back in Journey and then Santana/Journey co-headline for 2017. It will be in big stadiums and there will only be 20 to 30 shows. Save your money. Those tickets will be $500.

If Perry ever comes back Journey shouldn't ever have to do a co headlining tour again.

Agreed. They might do it to limit the amount of time on stage for perry's voice, but not for the economics of it.
