Read this story this morning. That was a pretty classy move on Prince's part. I never got the comparison of Purple Rain to Faithfully though.

Really great read. I too don't see the comparison with "Faithfully" at all. Pretty cool that Prince really admires Schon's guitar work.

For some reason I always thought the story was that Schon called Prince to apologise for the ending of Faithfully sounding like Purple Rain

Who would have thought Stiffler could sing a bit.

Always saw the ending of each songs similar. But the rest is nothing like Faithfully. Very cool that Prince reached out to them. Class act.

there was a radio show here that ran this story, at the end Jon spoke about a one direction song,

never heard heard so googled it, apparently there is 2 songs that rip off the piano opening, much much more than Princes
ending.

Believe me I wanted to. Was a total rip And they did it while we were playing gigs with them. They went so far to say we really like the new tune ( I'm going to leave you ) 5/4 shuffle... We played it live before we recorded it

I hadn't thought the songs were that similar, but after reading this story here, it also came to me how Soto was doing Purple Rain and Faithfully as a medley during Soul Sirkus shows. I thought that was a strange combo at the time but now it starts to make sense! Schon must have told that story to Soto. I thought it was just that Soto was a Prince fan.

Schon & Soto even went to a Prince show (Minneapolis, I think) during the Soul SirkUS era, and talked about it all then. Schon said that's where he got the idea to give Generations away at Journey shows. Prince was doing that with his current record.

I seem to recall that Neal moved to Minneapolis with one of his wives because that is where she was from originally. I would imagine that he at least looked up Prince a couple of times.

Kansas may have ripped it , but they sure knew how to make it more memorable

I thought that was Minnesota.
