I know a lot of people thought it was too "formulaic" but I loved it. This is welcome news to me!

Ironically, I just listened to the Revolution Saints CD about an hour ago. That was before coming on here and seeing this thread.

Why would Jack Blades not want to do another RS album?

The downside is:
Controversy. Bad press. Flamed for the association.

What's the upside?
Will the album sell?
Will the tour be a money maker?

I don't see that happening at all. If he thinks that that would happen he's highly misinformed and unrealistic.

Well, that is your personal opinion, but it is a big assumption on your part. No one person can't speak for everyone else out there and you can't know who's opinion will differ from yours. Said respectfully of course...

If there's one thing you can count on, especially these days, it's reporters are looking to write articles filled with controversy. Don't doubt for a minute they would skew the truth to punctuate the controversy and create outrage. Maybe Jack doesn't want to chance finding himself in that position. Could you blame him? I couldn't.

In the past I could have seen it causing problems from bad publicity. I just don't feel that that is the case anymore, for a number of reasons.
As well as Journey are still doing in terms of ticket sales, they don't have anywhere nearly the attention focused on them by the press that they did back in the 80's. The biggest majority of the general public don't know who Deen Castronovo is, much less know or care about what he's alleged to have done. And in fact he has stated that even though he did do some things wrong, he insists that he did NOT do some of the things that were claimed against him.
He spent time in jail, and more importantly he spent time in rehab. He seems to have straitened his life out ( I hope so, for his sake) and he deserves another chance in both life and music.

Jack Blades would not lose one penny as a result of working with Deen again.

I'm not trying to dismiss your opinions, and I hope that you don't feel that I am trying to do so! I just don't see there being any real scandal that would in any way hurt Jack Blades career at this time by working with Castronovo.

Dude -- respectfully, and I mean that sincerely -- you need to re-read what I wrote about reporters. Deen's story got press. There are photos of him on the web in court wearing a suicide prevention vest. It was even on TMZ. This would make a nice little follow up story. Controversy = news worthy these days and I have no doubt they would skew the truth for sensationalism. Apparently Mr. Blades disagrees with you on some level because he opted out, right?

I've suggested what the potential downsides are. Waiting to hear what the upside is? Will the album sell enough to make it worth while? No. Nightranger tours casino venues and they have a name. Will this unknown band tour venues larger than bars? No. So what do you think is going on through Jack's head?: "waste of time and potential bad press"? Yeah, can't wait to jump on that!

Bottom line is, you need to look at this less from the fan perspective and more from the guy who's in the biz looking at his career choices.

If it was me that was in Jack Blades shoes, I'd be thinking that I'm getting to the end of my career and am not likely to get very many more albums to do as is, so why pass up one of the last ones that I'm even offered?

I realize that TMZ and some other did mention Deen's problems. I just don't think that that is anything that is going to hurt the careers of those (from a publicity stand point) who work with Deen. Back in 1986 it might have been bad from a publicity stand point, but not in 2016. Especially seeing as these guys are getting to the ends of their careers anyway.

If it was me that was the one deciding to work with Deen or not, I would be more concerned with making the music that I love to make, and working with friends, and less concerned with what outsiders think.

I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with everything that your saying. Just the same as you obviously don't agree with everything that I'm saying. So I guess we should agree to disagree. 8)

You're right! You win!

Just messing with you. :D

I agree it's not 1986 and it's not going to mess with Jack's career. But it is unwanted negative attention and it can be a tale that follows him around in the future (i.e. future interviewers bring it up, etc.). It's more of a is it worth it thing than a career breaker.

My point was there's very little upside to doing another album. I think I read someone state that Frontiers records commissioned the first one, which means it came with a paycheck for Blades. Could be wrong about that though so if anyone knows for sure either way, please chime in. If that is correct, however, you have to ask if this next one also comes with upfront payment. If not, then hey, there's part of the answer right there.

I would buy the cd. If people want to bring up bad stuff, let them. if Deen is not doing it anymore, it makes a good life turn around story, spin it positive.

Thinking more and more about it. Michael Anthony or Marco Mendoza makes sense for them.

I'm not a huge fan of Marco Mendoza's singing, but he is a great bass player.
Michael Anthony would probably be a fairly good choice.

John Wetton is a great bass player/vocalist.
Ricky Phillips is a great bass player. I've only heard him sing one song, and it was a live performance, but he sounded good.
Kasim Sulton is another bass player/singer. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with his music. But if he was able to take over the bass playing and vocals of the great Ben Orr, then I assume he's pretty good.

And I would assume that most of those guys are good song writers as well.

I just remembered that Glen Burtnik is another good singer/bass-player.

Oh, and Glen Hughes is another bass player/vocalist.

I should have thought of this sooner. Gary Moon is the bass player/vocalist that replaced Jack Blades in Night Ranger in the early to mid 90's.
