The list also-includes first-time appearances by Electric Light Orchestra, Joan Baez and Steppenwolf, while previous nominees Yes, the Cars, the J. Geils Band, the Zombies, Kraftwerk and the MC5 are also on the list. The rest of the ballot includes Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Depeche Mode, Bad Brains, Tupac Shakur, Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Joe Tex and 11-time nominee Chic.

Ballots are being sent to music industry professionals on the Rock Hall's voting committee, while the public can also vote at RockHall.com, with its choices being weighted and group into the final tally.

An announcement of the five inductees is expected during early December, with the ceremony taking place next April at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and filmed for subsequent broadcast on HBO.

Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their first released recording, so 1991 or before in the case of this year's group.

Rock Hall of Fame: Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes Lead Nominees

Journey, Janet Jackson, Depeche Mode, ELO, Chic, Joan Baez, the Zombies and the Cars among 19 possible inductees, with voting again open to fans

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/ ... es-w445147

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2017 are in, and the list includes Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane's Addiction, Janet Jackson, Journey, the Cars, the Zombies and Yes. The rest of this year's hopefuls are Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, Chic, J. Geils Band, Joan Baez, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5 and Steppenwolf. The top vote-getters will be announced in December and inducted next April at a ceremony at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. HBO will broadcast the ceremony later in the year.

For the fifth consecutive year, the public will have the opportunity to vote alongside the more than 800 artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 6th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the ballots that determine the class of 2016. Voting is available below.

To be eligible for this year's ballot, each nominee's first single or album had to be released in 1991 or earlier. Some of the nominees have appeared on previous ballots, but this is the first appearance for Bad Brains, Depeche Mode, Electric Light Orchestra, Jane’s Addiction, Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam, Steppenwolf, and Tupac Shakur. It's Pearl Jam and Shakur's first year of eligibility, while Chic earned a Hall of Fame record with 11 ballot appearances. It's the fifth for Joe Tex, the fourth for the J. Geils Bands and Kraftwerk and the third for Yes.

In a change of tradition, the Hall of Fame has announced the individual members of each band that will be honored. Pearl Jam have had five drummers, but only current drummer Matt Cameron and founding member Dave Krusen will be inducted should they make it in. Electric Light Orchestra has had many musicians come and go over the years, but just Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Bev Bevan and Richard Tandy made the cut. The classic Steve Perry lineup of Journey is listed along with founding keyboardist/singer Gregg Rolie. As far as Yes, original singer Jon Anderson is on the ballot along with drummers Bill Bruford and Alan White, keyboardists Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman, guitarists Steve Howe and Trevor Rabin and bassist Chris Squire. Keyboardist Vince Clarke left Depeche Mode after their first album Speak & Spell, but he is listed along with the rest of the band.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is often the one place where estranged bands reunite for a single evening. The most notable potential reunions possible from this class include Journey with Steve Perry, Yes with Anderson, Bruford, Rabin, Kaye and Wakeman, ELO with Bevan and Wood, the 1970s lineup of Kraftwerk, Jane's Addiction with original bassist Eric Avery, J. Geils Band with guitarist John Geils and drummer Stephen Jo Bladd and Depeche Mode with Clarke and keyboardist Alan Wilder.

Last year's Hall of Fame class included N.W.A, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick, Chicago and Deep Purple.

Well if a miracle happens and they get in here's hoping Perry shows and sings (and Rolie too!)

If there was any hope of them reconciling long enough to perform on the same stage, even just once, this is it..... assuming they become one of the nominees.

As reported today, Journey joins the list of first-time nominees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. For the full list, please visit rockhall.com

Former lead singer and co-writer of their biggest songs, Steve Perry, had this to say,

Now is the perfect time for Steve Perry to promote his new album... if it actually exists.

Does anybody know if/how/when tickets will go on sale for the HOF event?

If Journey gets in, I will be shocked if any band members other than Perry,Schon,Cain,Smith,Valory,Rolie and maybe even aynsley dunbar get inducted with them. As much as we love Arnel, he is just not going to get inducted-whether you think he should or not, he' probably won't be included

If they do get in, the big questions will be:

Will Perry share the stage with them? Will he perform with them?

Since no other singer is nominated, you would think that he would have no choice.

Of course, he does, but one would hope, for his fan's sake, that he could celebrate the occasion with us, in his rightful place. Surely he could put the past behind him for one night.....

Ok, really jumping the gun here...but if they get the nod, who should induct them?
My vote is Randy Jackson. He has clout in the business and obvious ties to the band.

Tell that to Axl Rose.

My hope is Perry pulls a repeat of the WOF ceremony. He sets things aside and comes together to celebrate their collective achievement.

Perry is working on new music, which means he's gotten his voice in shape. This could be the (small) one off reunion performance we've been praying for.

Fingers crossed

I can see that happening with Randy Jackson. I was thinking Sammy Hagar. He's been vocal for Journey to get in the hall in the past. Plus he is friends with Neal.

This is a really good question. Both logical choices given. Perry sang back up on one of Sammy's tracks back in the day so they must have been friendly too. He makes the most sense to me.

Another possibility is an actor or producer. Didn't Jack Black induct Rush? Robert Downey Jr. is a Perry fan. I'm just sayin'.

If you are going that route, then maybe Charlize Theron (because of Monster) or David Chase (because of Sopranos). I'd rather see it be someone in music to be honest.

I agree with you. Would rather it be someone in music. Was just offering speculation for something we might not have thought of that could very well happen.

From music, it could also be a producer they've worked with. Caveman for one. Maybe even an exec like John Kalodner.

In the case of Rush, I have to believe Jack Black petitioned the band to do the induction. Not the other way around.

Wonder what the process would be? How does the inductee get chosen and who makes that decision?
