Houston 4-12-80

Does anyone know what is the definitive version of this show in terms of sound quality,
Years ago I bought it on silver discs under the title of Messin' With The Kid,
I see it posted on you tube by daspudster and it seems to maybe have better sound,
richer, fuller, more low end, the speed always seemed just a bit slow to my ear,
any info is appreciated, this is what Captured should have been

I think mine is called "Departing the Firey Summit" maybe? As you mentioned, it seems the track is slowed slightly, and there's plenty of low end bass as well, which I like. It's not terrible, audio overall is good, but it does seem a bit off in terms of speed. And you're right, Captured should have included some of the stuff that was on here, especially the tracks that were performed so long up to that point, most notably Patiently into Opened the Door. I think I read an interview where, around this time the playlist had been altered, much to the chagrin of the some of the members. That's neither her nor there, but this concert along with the Chicago one, are two of the best "boots" available that covers the entire spectrum of what Journey was from 79' to 80', prior to Escape.

That's the 1981 Escape Show, not the "1980 Departure Tour Bootleg" in question.

With the HOF, it would be great if they released a live box set,
79-80 show different from Captured
81 show different from Houston maybe Tokyo
83 show
86 show

Not sure all the parties could get together on this one, also I
believe the Vegas shows featuring Escape and Frontiers in full
will be released like the Styx Grand Illusion/PO8 DVD/CDs

The '86 tour will never be released for a myriad of reasons. For starters, I'm sure Smitty and Ross don't want to remind the world they were replaced by two studio session musicians. Secondly, Perry was cooked. And without sounding in his finest form, you can bet he'll never let those shows see the light of day.

Saw them 5 times on that tour. He sounded great to me. Not perfection, but great.

I doubt it. The hits are covered in those three releases and anything else would just be for the hardcore fans. I don't think that there are enough hardcore fans left to make it economically worth doing.

I go back to the point, where in an interview (I forget if it was Herbie or the Band), where they said EVERYTHING was filmed in those days (Infinity/Evolution/Departure). Now they're just sitting in some dimly lit, unventilated, humid cellar somewhere deteriorating away instead of being preserved, cut, & released for sale. (probably). :D

VH1-Classic should have gotten their hands on this. Maybe then they would still be around.

The one hit song that is missing from all the official Journey live concerts released is Chain Reaction.

Still wonder how the very deep voiced jackson and the bland cain pulled off the high voiced backing vocals!

I was lucky enough to be there that day. Feel free to correct me, but I'm 99.9% sure that show had backing tracks.

To my knowledge, the only thing released was the NFL Films/Raised on Radio documentary which included live versions of "Girl Can't Help It" and "I'll Be Alright Without You" - both of which were on the Time3 release. My guess is those were the only tracks Perry ever signed off on.

The song Raised on Radio was also shown live in the documentary

For some reason there has always been a bit of a speed issue on this release. I remember years ago talking to the guy that produced "Departing the Firey Summit" during my trading days and I think we found the right speed version.....not positive on that since its been like a lifetime since then. SOLID show overall, and yeah, that one show alone should have been the release, not the one that ended up being "Captured".

Loving you is easy
Daydreams
Lady Luck
When Your Alone
People and Places
Precious Time
Patiently
Opened The Door
Winds of March

People and Places, Precious Time, and Patiently are in my current top 15 of favorite Journey tunes. It seems to change from season to season. :)
