At least it sounds like he'll make an appearance which is nice. I'm sure nobody wants to say too much because they have no idea what he's thinking or what he wants to or will actually do. If nothing else, he can get up...thank the fans...say a couple nice things, and then leave.

What a "cop out" if he doesn't sing...he owes his fans that. Yes...I said it. He OWES it to his
legions of fans to get his butt onstage and SING! In whatever capacity he can at this point in his life!

It would be awesome if he sang, but I am so glad he will be there and thank the fans, which he still has an allegiance of.

Basically a repeat from the Hollyweird Walk of Fame, do a speech, take pictures, bow out as quickly as possible.
I guess at least he's showing up.

This is what most of us expected, so no great surprise. I'm sure he will be glad when it's all over, and he can fall back into his normal life.

You must be pretty rich to afford to pay Steve all that money to perform, because that's the only way he would owe anyone anything. He did his time. They are giving them an honor, which is not predicated on anyone performing. If the guy doesn't want to sing with them, that's his choice to make. They certainly made theirs.

This is like watching and waiting to see Punxsutawney Phil will open the door to his home in Oz and emerge then take a flight and join his bandmates on stage on the night of party and celebration. For a moment we will stand with the HOF audience and wait with bated breath wondering if he will see his shadow and there will be a forecast of song or not. This all should be fun. Comments like mine don't matter, it should be all about the acknowledgment and recognition of the band's musical legacy. I sincerely don't care if he doesn't sing I suppose I would like to hope that he hasn't forgotten amidst all that has happened through the years that it all really was magical. Ok, a song wouldn't be bad but you can't always get what want.

DAMNED IF YOU DO AND DAMNED IF YOU DON'T.

This is fine by me. I am glad to hear he is going to join the group in celebrating this honor. I mean, Eddie Van Halen didn't show for his band, nor did Axl Rose among others - all because they didn't get along well enough to be in the same room together.

Nice job, Neal. And this is exactly why your pissing match keeps going on, and on, and on, and on....

Maybe it was Schon's lawyer, who wouldn't give Steve his number, to call and tell him ?

I just don't get it. For years Neal has been "taking the high road", saying that the door is always opened...knowing damn well that no reunion was going to happen. For months, people have been waiting to see if Steve would show up at the HOF. According to another band mate, Steve agrees to join them...and Neal bitches.

What a ridiculous comment by Schon. That certainly didn't help the cause.

I guess Neal didn't talk to Jon. Maybe he doesn't have Cains phone number either?

It was Perry who reached out to Jon in '95. Wonder if he recently did the same thing.

Perry owes it to the fans to show up and sing. And here's why. If he doesn't show up and sing, he is bleeping on the fans. For all his life, Perry has professed his love for the fans. "Can't Tame The Lion!" supposedly is a song about how much he loves the fans. If he doesn't show up and sing, that was all a pack of lies.

I don't go on Twitter, Facebook or any of those other type of sites. Maybe Neal said more than just the above quote and I'm just not seeing it? But if the above quote from Neal is all that he said, then I don't blame him for being a little annoyed. It is Neal's band, always has been, always will be.
I'd be a little annoyed if it was my band and no one bothers to tell me who will or won't be attending the ceremony in terms of past band members.

Not seeing what you are all finding so offensive with this remark. Reads like a simple statement of fact to me.

I agree! And I agree with others here that he should sing, FOR THE FANS! What would be so horrible about do a one off performance as a way of THANKING YOUR FANS! No, he doesn't owe us anything, but he should want to do it!

Steve Perry is being inducted to the ROR HOF for his contributions to Journey and in turn their contribution to music in general. Journey will perform. Steve Perry is no longer in Journey and has not performed with them for decades. As much as I'd love to hear Steve and Neal together, it isn't odd that his not playing the circus monkey and performing tricks for the crowd's delight.
Personally, I bet he doesn't give two shits about it. The ROR HOF is not the high honor it should be. It is a political body that often fails to consider the actual Rock and Roll. It's neither the worst of things or the best. And for me, it is not some end all be all where dreams must come true. Of course any fan would love to see it. Duh. But worse than not performing is performing just to placate others. Where is the soul in that?
If I was in his shoes, the first time I heard someone say I owe them, I'd say no thanks and walk away. It's a silly notion.
Also, I said it before. If Steve ever was to decide to a reunion, why in the world would he do it for free? You stage it and put one hell of a pretty penny in your pocket. Not just give a bunch of money to HBO.

Geez oh Pete, everything isn't about money! And besides he made some nice coin selling his 30 year old Jeep that he won't miss the money if he doesn't get paid to sing. It seems everything is about money as if we can't speak a word without considering the worth of each pause and nuance or clever murmur... and God forbid he sings a note or two because there would have to be contracts and middlemen to figure out how much a note is worth and if singing a line or two of Don't Stop Believing is worth more than a few lines of Easy to Fall or another song. Just get on the stage, smile for the camera, sing or don't sing and have some kind of freaking fun with all those musicians and singers. It's not rocket science. Well it shouldn't be rocket science. I will be glad when all of this hubbub is over because it's getting too morose and depressing and too much thought about obligation and finances. I think it's about seeing everybody maybe you haven't seen in years or who is still alive and who is still with which wife and thanking all the fans for being there and loving their music. And so much more. This makes my head spin. Uuuugh.
