I love Steve Perry and respect him, but no one has sang at this level for so long. (Maybe Dennis DeYoung)

WRONG. John Farnham's first hit song in Australia was in 1969. Here he is this year:

Same song, 30yrs ago - 1987:

And, what was Zander crooning on TV in the late 60's?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRRVcHS9GRQ

That's 50yrs of professional singing...and top 40 hits and touring.

love all these guys singing, but have Zander or Farnham sing Open Arms or Worlds Apart night after night.

I've been on a big Farnham kick lately. Always a fan, but listening a lot the last month or two. Dude is crazy good. I regret that I will likely never see him live. Love The Acoustic Chapel Sessions from 2011.

Mickey is awesome. Just saw them a few months back and was shocked at how good he still sounds.

Zander is sounding great too. That any of these guys can hit a note at their age is pretty amazing. Must have taken care of themselves.

Still would have been my choice to replace Perry after the Frontiers Tour. Journey wouldn't have skipped a beat.

Love Thomas, and maybe they would have had a minor like Van Hagar moment, except Thomas was not much of a song writer like Perry and Hagar were. Thinking they would had a lot of Diane Warren songs.

When Perry should have been replaced was in 1998 with Chalfant, he sings as good as back then and can write awesome songs.

A Classic Schon/Cain/Chalfant (and maybe Rolie?) song

I will grant you Mickey to a point, but Zander's catalog is much more extensive.

Scarab, I'm with you. Ya'll need to re-read Ross Muir's work again. He is THE Voice for a reason. It wasn't something that JBJ picked out of a hat. It's not often that singers and/or entertainers give such testimony like that to others. It's a very, I would imagine, cut throat business. Brian Mays, "TRULY a luminous voice.1 in a Million." It is human nature to always want to de-throne the reigning champion, but sorry, this title stands. 180 shows a YEAR, 5-6 DAYS A WEEK with very little breaks in between songs. These gentlemen weren't merely talking about longevity, or range or whatever...but the WHOLE package.

In fact, here's the link to Ross Muir's work again, for a refresher course: http://www.fabricationshq.com/steve-per ... ebook.html
Or this for a shorter read: https://fireandair.wordpress.com/2008/0 ... g-frankly/

Ever hear how difficult some Cheap Trick songs are? Zander has been singing them night after night for a lot longer than Perry did, Debate is not over. Saw a 64 year old Robin Zander kill it in Hershey, PA last night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jn6zJBhHnU

Takes nothing away from how high in regard I hold Steve Perry. One of the greatest ever, but longetivity plays into things as well.

Maybe Perry will shock us all on his new album if it comes out in October.

Would love to hear him do something obviously. I keep thinking he should do some Sam Cooke stuff and other classic standards kind of like Rod Stewart did years back.

Longevity plays a good, healthy part, but not a major part. It is of the MANY components. Well, if you and others want to talk about it that's fine, but hundreds of thousands (yes, its true...those are the numbers) like myself, including one of the members of Holland, Dozier, Holland and JBJ, Brian Mays, even NEAL nowadays and many, many others have already made their decision. I RESPECT your informed opinion, though.

However...why are we discussing this on a Journey thread? The voice for 9 multi-platinum albums for Journey was Steve and for 10 years for JRNY is now Arnel? :?: If you are going to talk the REAL voice, then you are really going to say either Little Richard or Sam Cooke. The Real Voice of Rock and Roll and the Real Voice of Soul. Well...to each his/her own. Thanks for the adult discussion.
