I noticed on some web site that "To Play Some Music" was Journey's first single. It didn't do that well. But I think if they would have edited it down to around three minutes, it could have been a major hit song. Then with a hit under their belts, Look Into The Future could have been Journey's Free Bird, and Journey would have never needed Steve Perry.
I guess it all worked out well for us. Perry's voice never being heard would have been terrible. But still, I think To Play Some Music could have been a big hit if edited.

Heh, the song is 3:17.
Definitely the most "pop" song on the album. Doesn't really fit with the prog side.
To me its like Money on Dark side of the moon. So different from the rest of the record.

If they could have lopped 17 seconds off of it, it would have been a major hit. oh sorry
I wonder why it wasn't a big hit. You had Rolie on vocals. He was known at the time for singing for Santana. I wonder if Herbie didn't push it because he knew he wanted Perry. I am just starting some conspiracy theories. oh sorry

On my CD, it says To Play Some Music is 5:16. This must be a mistake that nobody bothered to correct for 50 years. Journey needs new management fast.
