BORING

Why does my favorite group never release anything? Just like Styx but Journey is far
more popular, where are the expanded editions, live tracks, archive shows?
Heck what about the Symphony show, the Hard Rock shows with Escape and Frontiers?
I keep checking thinking they will put out a live box set something but never anything,
What in the world are they waiting for? I’m 53 and been a fan since 78, I’m looking to buy stuff
now while I can enjoy it, enough said

Sony is just sitting on a gold mine letting it disintegrate in front of their eyes. Thank goodness they had enough sense to let Perry do something with it as far as GH DVD is concerned. I would love to see a RAISED ON RADIO official DVD and a TRIAL BY FIRE official DVD.

I'm pretty sure Journey isn't on a label now... Sony has rights to stuff but likely needs band member approvals to release anything... methinks they haven't released anything else because the band members wouldn't approve it.

I had a conversation with someone long ago who told me Journey has their own vault with live recordings and video...

They could independently release this stuff, but there likely isn't a big enough return on it to do so.

And then there is still the problem of getting it all approved by the members...

Is that the band / corporation? Who exactly are we talking about when we say Journey?

On a slightly funny note...how come I can no longer see that word (Journey) without a snicker or humming a song of theirs and smiling secretly to myself?

"A little moonrise humor Houston."

Journey (the corporation) is pretty much owned by the remaining band members who have:

  • equity in the corporation,or
  • at least a legal say in the use of the name "Journey"...

This likely means for "new" material, released indpendently or on any label (like Sony), at a minimum Neal & Jon would each have to agree to anything that uses the "Journey" name.

Perry would likely only have approval right for anything created during his tenure.

The "vault" I spoke of, is full of video and live recordings. That is owned by the band (corporation).

This band has been mismanaged for years now. So many missed opportunities.

and with Cheap Trick on the bill we will get the same dirty dozen with maybe Chain Reaction cause its Joe's fav JRNY song.
What amazes me is ZZTOP and Fogerty are playing at a casino that holds less than 5,000.
And Jrny/Leppard playing a stadium that holds 44,000+

I give em credit for that, in 98 they played a 3,000 seater here that was only 2/3s full.

According to this article in the Houston Press, Tesla is opening for them.

You are 100% correct. I don't know who their manager is or if they think they don't need one, but if they had a manager who was a fan of their music he would be knocking down doors to get them publicity. A manager would have said, "You said you liked Remember Me! You will play it in full somewhere in the movie Armageddon where people can actually hear the song!" They wouldn't allow it to be used in the background for a few seconds where nobody can make it out.

And this is only the top of the iceberg. There are hundreds or even thousands of times Journey has dropped the ball. Journey is a great band, but they need a manager who wants them to succeed.

Call me, Neal. :D

Well, Styx had "The Mission" CD released. They did the symphony show/DVD/CD - with extra songs. They the PO8/GI tour/DVD. Along with BBT, and a bunch of concerts CD's, some with new songs. Styx may not do as much as you WANT, but they have done a lot more than other bands from the 70's/80's.

I thought Journey did release expanded CDs back during TBF and those remasters...I never did buy those but I thought Frontiers had Only the Young and Ask the Lonely, Escape had La Razza del Sol and one other (Maybe "Natural Thing?"). Did the ROR rerelease have the live versions of "I'll Be Already Without You" and "Girl Can't Help It?" Perry even had some of his CD5 stuff on the rerelease of Street Talk and FTLOSM.

There was talk (Jonathan, mostly) of the video box set from way back shortly after TBF, but it never happened. It seems the reason was Perry not wanting to release what the band wanted to release, or whatever. But, you did get the MTV Escape concert. Neal has always said the "archive" shows are being held back by Perry. If there really is new good will between Perry and the band, they should talk about these again and get more live video, or even just audio, released.

Journey also has a lot of stuff for an OUttakes CD...They could rerelease a remaster of the box set with another CD of "B" sides and rarities - which should have already been there. And, sell the rarities CD on its own.

The most disapointing thing is after the HOF induction, Journey had a huge opportunity to do SOMETHING, and they did nothing. It was just a wasted opportunity, one of many.

Sometimes it's so FRUSTRATING being a fan of this band. So much great stuff hidden away, gathering dust, while their largest fan base is getting older.

Who knows what they are waiting for. I certainly don't. Someone needs to take charge.....I wonder what Herbie is up to these days?

I thought their manager was Irv Azoff

from Japan or Vegas, I thought they were filmed
