Andy Avery to perform in Martinsville
Clint Walker Jul 24, 2018

MARTINSVILLE -- Andy Avery, who had a short-lived opportunity to be the lead singer for the band Journey, will be giving a concert at the Linn Park Amphitheater in downtown Martinsville at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Members of the public are invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and be inspired by Avery’s life story, according to a press release.

Avery grew up in Burlington, Iowa, singing in the high school choir.

His talents led him to be lead singer in a number of groups, and ultimately earned the position as lead singer of Journey, one of the biggest rock bands in the country’s history. Unfortunately, due to his dependency on drugs and alcohol, his dream position never came to fruition. He spent time in many rehab centers.

Shortly after joining Journey, he ended up in the hospital with an overdose and the doctors said he would never sing again due to damage to his vocal cords. He also served time in a federal prison.

Today, Avery credits God for saving his soul, mind and body. Today he sings with only one vocal cord but has the ability to cover a five-octave range. He uses his talents to share his story of God’s grace, performing at churches, school assemblies and fairs across the country. He does eight fundraising concerts a year for the Children’s Miracle Network. His goal each day is to inspire others and he continues to use music as his way to connect with his audiences.

Local eateries will have food available for dining in the park before the concert. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy this opportunity to hear Avery’s story and enjoy the music. The concert is free and is being sponsored by Martinsville on the Move.

Neal Schon: “Never heard of him” and “this is bullshit and should be taken down.”

Journey management confirmed that this person was completely unknown to them and there was no negotiations whatsoever with him.

OK, seems like I remember some back story to this dude, but I don't remember the full details. Can someone fill me in? Also, when I saw he was performing in Martinsville, I thought to myself, might as well head up and check out the gig. I'm from Martinsville - however - I think this must be another Martinsville (I'm from Martinsville, VA.)

He’s another Dominick Allen-who claims to have sung on Foreigner’s 1990 world tour- which never happened - the band was broken up in 1990. Liars.

I just wonder why he doesnt just say he is a long life Journey fan and that "Journey" music helped him, not that he was considered or even played a single note with them.
I mean the concerts are free but I assume the city is giving him some $ for the expensive.
I mean other tribute acts go out there and make money without claiming to be "in the band".

I am sure once again he will blame a promoter, like before.

And by the way, I was the original lead singer of Bon Jovi!

I can't believe Journey's lawyers didn't fry this asshole when he started running his mouth three years ago.
