Quite a read. Apparently Baird was fired, replaced by Atma Anur, and then begged to come back.

Good read, thanks for sharing. There's not a lot of info out there about Mike Baird. I was aware of his pop background because my cousin is a sessions drummer, and never thought MB was as bad of a player as a lot of Journey fans paint him out to be. He was just a square peg being forced into a round hole with this gig....more so than I think most of us knew.

It was nice to see him give due props to Smith as the only guy who really should of had that gig at the time. Was also interesting to read how Neal flexed his muscle as being the original band member who needed to be pleased. I don't recall him pulling that card much back then.

This could also explain why Herbie trashed him in the Castles Burning article. MB made the entire organization sound like a bunch of pain in the asses.

So THAT'S what happened! I recall seeing a listing for Journey's 1986 tour back then and a drummer named Atma Anur was listed as drummer. But by the time they went on tour, it was Mike. I figured there had been a change up somewhere.

I was recently reading up on Atma Anur. It sounds like he's a phenomenal drummer.
