Sounds legit to me. I have always agreed with Herbie that KC should have been given the job.
The band's choices to replace Perry - Augeri, JSS, and Arnel - have always been a little out of left field imo.
Arnel had the range but lacked the songwriting pedigree.

I agree with you about Soto and Arnel, but I always thought that Augeri fit Journey like a glove (until they worked him into a serious health crisis). Not that the other two aren’t great vocalists, I just didn’t think they fit Journey as well as Augeri did.

Agree, Augeri was really good early on before the vocal issues. Sounded good, looked the part, etc.

I'm shocked...and have always wondered how could there be no recordings from that night? For what it is, sounds great for being impromptu; a little keyed up tempo-wise, but not a bad thing. Who was playing drums that night? Who was in the lineup playing that night?

I would agree that Kevin should've gotten the job, especially with what we heard on the two Storm albums -- right in the wheelhouse with a little gruffer edge at points giving a similar yet raw emotion. Augeri was great as that was how I was introduced to the band touring-wise, but new the music up to the point of him joining and his tenure with the band. I thought Jeff was awesome and brought a new fire to the band and was capable on delivering the catalog be it the dirty dozen or fan favorites and deep cuts -- truly wished he had a tenure in the band as I feel it would've been the next incarnation for them. Arnel, a killer voice that no one could've predicted when initially seeing it on paper so-to-speak, garnering a platinum album in the modern music industry and some major touring...the trade-off though is that age and wear are showing as you look back at the firecracker he was early on to where he's at now, albeit having to reign things in a bit to get through tours and alter how he sings (sometimes looks and sounds awkward).

I don't think that is what it says it is. The tone is wrong for Chalfant. I'm not sure who it is, but I'm about 99% convinced who it isn't.

I like all 3 for different reasons. But there are pros and cons.

Augeri: PRO: His grace and ability to make songs his own. CON: Not the right voice for heavy long-term touring of catalog.

JSS: PRO: His energy, passion and fearlessness... and ability to give Journey it’s Van Hagar opportunity. CON: His voice is less like Perry’s than most alternatives, which hurts for those demanding that.

Arnel: PRO: His story, his heart and one of the better voices in the business. Versatile and powerful. CON: Only co-wrote 2 songs and doesn’t seem to be able to push for more.

Best choice for me personally? JSS. The Perry era needed to stay where it was and Journey, if they had truly wanted to, could have lived up to their name and evolved like in 78 and 81. JSS really brought it live. And ironically - at least qualitatively - this was the singer who was received most favorably by Perryheads.

Is that really Kevin on vocals? Many in the comments section say it isn't and that the recording is from a tribute band. I don't know enough about Kevin's voice to tell one way or the other.

I don't think it's him either. There are too many little things that this guy does with his voice that seem to be mimicking Perry. For all the comparisons to Perry, it seems to me that Chalfant never blatantly tried to copy him like that.

Also, Chalfant wanted to do a different song for the encore...I always thought it was DBS, but, they did "I've Got a Lot to Learn About Love" for a second time.

I thought it did sound like Kevin....until the end where the vocalist starts shouting and screaming. Either way, not bad.

Sounds like someone singing karaoke. The backing track sounds like the record.

Kevin is usually pretty fan-friendly. I sent it to him and will let you know if he replies.

No idea if it's him or not, but I do know that it sounds awful.

Definitely sounds like an actual band though. Whoever it is is decent

I'm not so sure that is Steve Smith on drums either. Doesn't have his feel at all.

I thought there may be some intro or outro, or something unique and memorable that this did nor did not have that would give it away. But, that's Ok.

The last bit of this doesn't sound like Kelty at all. He is basically just screaming the words out, like he lost his voice.

He has a page on YouTube, somebody could probably ask him what he thinks...he used to be pretty open to talking to fans.

I agree. Neal said we don't need another Stone In Love because we already have it. So, they want to go in a new direction. So JSS would have been perfect. But then Neal says they want the Legacy Sound. So, they get Arnel, but they aren't making new songs like Stone in Love. So, the whole thing doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah, I really don't think this is legit either after seeing the other mislabeled clips this guy has posted on his channel claiming they are big rarities. At first I figured it might be legit and just bad quality (I even posted in the comments), but after further listens there are just too many inconsistencies like would Chalfant struggle that much, and that REALLY isn't Steve Smith's style of playing. Its a shame because I got my hopes up like I'm sure many others did!! haha
