"5 Journey songs in the making so far."
"Neal has been working in Narada's studio."
"Jon is recording his parts in Florida. Randy is recording his parts in LA. Arnel is recording his parts in the Phillipines."
"Neal thinks touring won't come back until there's an antidote. Until then, he feels the band should continue to create new music. By the time they tour, there may be 2 Journey records. He is concerned for his own health because he had double pneumonia."
"Arnel put down vocals on the new Journey single yesterday. It is now going into the mixing stage."
"There's not alot Neal can share right now regarding firing Ross and Smitty because of legal issues. He only wants to talk about new music."
"Neal grew up with Narada in the bay area."
"New Journey music is funky and rocking. Definitely sounds like Journey, but with a new strut."
"Steve Smith made a comment to Neal that he was not interested in making music, only picking up a paycheck. Smitty lost Neal in that moment."
"Neal says if you create new music, it has to be different. Look at The Beatles. They didn't recreate the same song over and over. Neal wants to create songs in a different vein from the past."
"Neal says they wanted to block him from using the name Journey Through Time. Meanwhile Journey cover bands tour with no problem even in bigger venues. Neal's upcoming book is called Journey Through Time. Nobody will stop him from using the word Journey."
"Neal doesn't want to be affiliated with what Live Nation is trying to do right now by shifting more risk to the artists. He would rather keep creating new albums, stream them live, and sit tight until things get back to normal."
"Last time Neal spoke to Perry was at the Hall of Fame induction."
"Neal is clueless why Perry doesn't tour or play live at all."
"Neal says he is a true friend of Perry, whether he realizes it or not. He doesn't want anything from Perry."
"Neal is at home in the Bay area. Perry is welcome to stop by for coffee or join Neal and Narada in the studio."
"Neal doesn't want to talk politics, but feels alot has to change to get our country back, and music plays a part of that. Especially uplifting music."
"Neal has some great ideas about getting new music out to the masses. He doesn't want to talk about it yet."
After a commercial, Neal was asked about HSAS and his opinion on Journey tribute bands. He says tribute bands are a compliment overall, but it becomes problematic when they start selling Journey-related merchandise.
Neal was asked about the Departure album. Neal calls it a pivotal point and that the band was trying to find places to experiment.
"The juices are flowing again between Cain and Neal. They are writing some killer stuff. It's an exciting time."
"Neal says him and Cain have a positive vibe now. Stuff had to be cleaned up and there was alot of lying going on. They are now on the up and up."

What does this mean? Am I reading too much into this? It sounds like there will be no hard copies.... no CDs. I am a collector of all Journey albums and need a hard copy. Are they only going to be allowed steamed live?

Hard to be sure. Neal stressed that him and Cain are actively collaborating. Cain could always be onboard initially and then disown the project later - like he did with Eclipse.
JourneyHard wrote:I am just worried they will compromise and it will be half of new sound and half of legacy sound, and stuck in the middle will be a mess. Just commit to either a new sound or the legacy sound in my opinion!

And I loved that. Generations sacrificed any flow by having everyone sing. (Obviously done to give Steve's voice a break and easier to sell the idea without addressing that). While Revelation had a "legacy" sound there was definite experimentation. I liked that. While I didn't love Eclipse I loved the experimentation again....but i would've preferred a couple familiar sounds. Journey works when they give us both.

Arrival did have some new sounds, but for the most part it was the legacy sound. They made Augeri sound as much like Perry as they could even having him imitate the oooh waaahs and so on. But it worked. Eclipse had a bit of the legacy sound, but it reached to new places with fresh and bold abandon. Generations was the album that got caught in the middle and was a mess.

Neal says it sounds like Journey with a new strut. We will see. I think Eclipse found a sweet spot between bold experimentation and legacy. For some, it was too much. I'm just glad we are getting a new album. Shame Ross and Smitty had to be fired to make it happen. But that's on them.
