Just The Thought of Losing You

Covered by both Kenny Rogers and Conway Twitty, this song should have helped Cain to become embraced as a country hitmaker.
Instead, he said he found the Nashville songwriting industry to be closed-off to him.

The Kenny Rogers version shows a date of 1986...that does not exactly seem like the timeframe where he was in Nashville trying to make the country scene.

The song itself seems like a typical 80's ballad. It sounds more like a Chicago 16 song than a country song. Not 'bad', but not anything super special either. If this is typical of what he has been doing to break him into country, it doesn't surprise me he wasn't "embraced".

Looks like he wrote this with Michael Bolton. I wonder if that’s what led to the relationship on The Hunger album?

Also from the same Loggins album,

Steve Lukather and Randy Goodrum wrote this track for him

Not great but was a nice little find

Randy Goodrum's got a Spotify playlist that I think this tune is on. He's also got some good stuff from Bill Chaplin (Chicago) and Joseph Williams (TOTO) on the playlist as well, as well as many others that he has collaborated with.

My point is that having his song recorded by not one, but TWO, big country stars, should have helped Cain to become embraced as a country hitmaker. The time frame is basically irrelevant.

Wait. Where do I know this song from? Oh yes. It was on Jonathan Cain's solo album Back to the Innocence. I know people don't like this album, but I like most of the songs.

I like the album too.

I know that a lot of people seem to hate Cain's singing. Should he sing lead vocals on Journey songs? No, definitely not, except for him singing Rolie's vocals on songs like Feeling That Way and Anytime live.
But hm singing on his solo albums is fine.

Although I have no interest in his recent solo albums, and I prefer that he just do instrumental solo albums.

That's interesting...I love this album. But, the import is very different. So, there are really two different versions of the album.

Jonathan's version

Michael Bolton's version:
