Unreleased Journey Songs.

Postby Journey/Survivor » Sun Jul 05, 2020 11:52 am

Can any of you list the titles of Journey songs that have never been officially released?

Do NOT bother naming anything on the Time 3 Box Set since those have been officially released.

I'm thinking along the lines of" Let It Take You Back" and songs like that that they never released on CDs

Thank you for any help you might give me!!!

The most obvious to me is "Let It Rock You".:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JRfVoiTg64

...and "Get Your Face Outta Here"...Perry solo...crazy falsetto at points, almost annoying:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q46LygBbOqE

....and all of the King Biscuit Flower Hour Superjam where "Good Time" came from

I searched on YouTube and a couple I have never heard before, pre-Perry stuff:
Angels From Heaven/Can You Hear Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LORUxOy ... Z&index=17

Charge Of the Light Brigade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBqNbyc ... Z&index=16

There was also a live promo album released prior to Infinity that had Perry singing some of the pre-Perry stuff....I always love the version of "Next" from that album.

A Kinda Interesting collection...not sure of all of the origins here...some obvious Perry solo stuff, too. I really wish he did an entire album like "Bring it Home To Me"...that just sounds so natural. I've always love "Den't Tell Me Why You're Leavin". Also has some of the KBFH Superjam where "Good Times" came from...I have a reel to reel of that somewhere, not sure if it is still good though:

Something To Hide?

Might be a Perry solo demo, not sure.

Well, it's on Infinity....but there is a demo version out there:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD5RL4hFHSo

I think there are a few songs from Infinity that have demo versions out there....back in the early 90's, froy was selling Journey CD's for $50/cd...and one of them had this and other Infinity demos. There were a few different CD's with different stuff. A few of us back then got together and each of us bought a different CD, then we burned copies and shared it so we didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get them. Froy would split things up like the Superjam so you would have to buy a couple CD's to get the full thing. Or, he would take specific songs from a concert and put it on a rarities CD, and sell the whole concert separate. He was also selling DVD's and VHS of various things....for some outrageous amount, like $100 or something crazy like that. I never got into the video of what he had because I had most of it from other sources anyway.

I think Lora or somebody else told Journey about what froy was doing and they sent their lawyers at him. He stopped pretty quick after that happened :D

Good Time in 1999: https://youtu.be/6_8P_Ho1vxE

Filmore Boogie was on the 2000 Live DVD so that might not count as “un-released”? https://youtu.be/J5B5gPySDxE

And the live intro to that same DVD was called Arrival. That would have been cool intro for the Arrival CD like Majestic was for Infinity. I can’t find Separate Ways on YouTube from that DVD but it was played in front of that to open the show. They also used that intro in 2003. Here is a post about it: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=43083

"let it take you back" was released as a bonus track from Revelation.

I've always wondered about all of the songs over the years that were cut from albums and never saw the light of day. It would be cool to have a album or two of all of the songs from the cutting room floor, especially from the Infinity through Raised on Radio years.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

A friend of mine is trying to get me many songs and albums that I don't have. I recorded "Let It Take You Back" several years ago off of YouTube, but my friend will see if he can get it onto a CD for me.

Thanks again, everyone. And if you know of any other unreleased Journey songs, please let me know.

Isn't "Let It Take You Back" on the Japanese version of Revelation or is it a different version of the song?

A few years back there was an audio clip of Steve pre-Journey singing some of the lyrics to La Do Da. The 'something about you baby' part, but it had more of a bluesy shuffle to it. It was more of a jam session than a demo. I can't fin it now, but I did just find an instrumental version of La Do Da by Journey. SO it's kind of cool knowing how some of the early Perry/Journey stuff was built on existing pieces from both sides.

You hear a few of the early Perry/Journey vocals in his My My My track. I know this is diverting a bit from the topic, but it's still cook to hear the original variations.

Winds of Freedom

Only original thing they recorded with JSS. I believe there is a demo around with Jeremy singing it as well.

"One More Time" is on one of his CD'5's he released for the FTLOSM singles. Tthose CD5's are worth looking for. Some of the songs ended up on his "Greatest Hits + 5" collection.

I think this was from the Alien Project demo. The entire demo is out there somewhere....it is very bad quality tho, at least my copy is/was...haven't listened to it in decades.

I just made a separate thread for this, but here's a link to a website that has a great discography of Neal Schon. It also mentions other Journey band members, and has some rare photos.

It is a great list of pretty much everything that Neal has ever played on that has been officially released.

Thanks for the info!

I knew that there's a version of Jeremey Hunsicker singing Winds Of Freedom, I have it. But I didn't know that there are versions of Never Walk Away and Where Did I Lose Your Love with Jeremey on lead vocals.

I have a live performance of Journey doing Wheel In The Sky with Robert Fleischman on lead vocals, but if there's a studio version with Fleischman I have never heard it.

I’ve always wondered many how finished songs are out here that were cut from albums and never saw the light of day. They could probably put out an album’s worth of unreleased material just from the Perry era alone.
