That's bullshit. You mentioned NOTHING about Neal's attitude towards what was "Journey" back in the early 90's after the Bill Graham tribute. You did not point out how that attitude has now changed into Journey being whatever Neal says it is. THAT is an answer to YOUR QUESTION about why it is upsetting that Journey is now reduced to a duo with rotating members, like some classic rock version of Menudo.
And, to further expand on my answer, Jon did a Force interview about Bad English after they broke up. In part of it, he said that all John Waite wanted was to be a rock star. Go look at the bullshit that is the new profiles on the Journey website and tell me that Neal isn't afflicted with the same bloated ego that John Waite had.
Jon also said that he knew what it took to be in a BAND, that a band has a fate, a life, an existence...and in the end, IT died (BE's life and existence). It seems to me that is EXACTLY what is happening to Journey. Journey has been diluted down to making one man happy and everybody else hanging on for the pay checks.
Finally, Neal has said since Herbie's death how much he learned from him. Bullshit. Herbie wanted a close knit band that treated each other like family, modeled after the Grateful Dead. Journey is a cut-throat enterprise that fires players, sues players. After firing Ross and Steve Smith for ROR, Herbie said he made sure they got paid. While firing Ross and Steve Smith, Neal SUED THEM at the same time because he did NOT WANT TO PAY THEM...and then insulted their time in the band by saying they contributed nothing of significance. Journey is far away NOT what Herbie wanted them to be. Journey is NOT being run like Herbie did in the 70's and 80's.
THAT is what is frustrating to me.
