Upcoming Set List

When Journey tours again, they need to play all their ballads. Most people go to one Journey concert in their lifetime. They don't want to hear a melody of the ballads. They want to hear the ballads. But to do this, Journey needs to tour alone as the headliner. No more twin bills! Touring alone gives Journey time to do all the ballads and still have time to rock out. The set list should include songs that span the ages of Journey, and gives the fans a little taste of all the eras of Journey while still including the so-called Dirty Dozen.

Here is my potential Upcoming Set List:
J O U R N E Y
1. SEPARATE WAYS
2. ONLY THE YOUNG
3. STONE IN LOVE
4. (NEW SONG)
5. LIGHTS
6. TOO LATE
7. CHANGE FOR THE BETTER
8. OPEN ARMS
9. BE GOOD TO YOURSELF
10. FEELING THAT WAY
11. ANYTIME
12. (NEW SONG)
13. GIRL CAN’T HELP IT
14. ESCAPE
15. EDGE OF THE MOMENT
16. WHO’S CRYIN’ NOW
17. WHEN YOU LOVE A WOMAN
18. I’M GONNA LEAVE YOU
19. LOVIN’, TOUCHIN’, SQUEEZIN’
20. (NEW SONG)
21. SEND HER MY LOVE
22. HIGHER PLACE
23. WHEEL IN THE SKY
24. FAITHFULLY
25. DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’
ENCORE: ANY WAY YOU WANT IT

I doubt the average fan sits around and thinks "Gee, I really hope Journey plays their ballads tonight". They go to a show to hear what's familiar to them, which are the hits, and for the experience. If that includes the ballad's, great.

It would be nice if they diversify their set list some. But at the end of the day, they know what pays their bills, and that is the dirty dozen. Sticking a song like Edge of the Blade or Change for the Better in middle of the set does nothing but kill the momentum of the set list. People just get up and go get a beer. Lots of bands try to do this, and it almost never works. You have the die-hards that will get into it, but not many else. And don't get me wrong, I would love to hear those tunes.

The only way they could pull this off in today's concert climate is do it on a theater tour under of the guise of a "Night w/Journey." The multi-act shows bring in more $ and attract paying fans that may only be paying to really see one or other act, but everyone profits from their ticket purchase. Otherwise, it's the dirty dozen, plus a couple almost dirty dozen contenders and they are calling it a day.

Your proposed "all ballads" setlist is missing a shit-ton of ballads. I'm confused.

I don't mean all the ballads. Just the big hits. On the last couple tours, they didn't play Send Her My Love or Who's Cryin' Now, but instead stuck them in Jon's piano medley. The crowd cheered loudly when they heard Who's Cryin' Now, but then were very disappointed it was just a tease and not the whole song.

Can't play everything. Last time I saw them in 2019, they def. did do WCN.

That's true. They can't play everything. But they can play more if they tour solo. They should always play WCN. Back in the day, WCN went higher on the charts than DSB.

"I'm Gonna Leave You" - Bizarre pick to go with that set list.

I think they should take all their ballads and turn it into a 10 minute medley in the middle of the set. No more no less.

If they tour as the only main act, they will have time for all these songs. Since it is the 40th anniversary of their best album ever, Escape, they will probably include a lot of extra tracks from Escape. Plus, they can include four new songs.

1. Escape
2. Separate Ways
3. Only The Young
4. Stone In Love
5. Lights
6. (New Song)
7. Girl Can't Help It
8. Send Her My Love
9. Keep On Runnin'
10. Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin
11. (New Song)
12. Open Arms
13. Be Good To Yourself
14. (New Song)
15. Wheel In The Sky
16. Who's Cryin' Now
17. (New Song)
18. Ask the Lonely
19. Mother, Father
20. Faithfully
21. Don't Stop Beleivin'
22. Any Way You Want It

If Journey decides to wait to tour in 2022, then they have to tour alone as the only headliner for the 50th Anniversary Tour!
The set list in order includes at least one song from every album!

J O U R N E Y 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
1. Of A Lifetime
2. I'm Gonna Leave You
3. Next
4. Lights
5. Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin
6. Any Way You Want It
7. Who's Cryin' Now
8. Separate Ways
9. Be Good To Yourself
10. Can't Tame The Lion
11. Higher Place
12. Out Of Harm's Way
13. Change For the Better
14. Edge Of The Moment
15. (New Song Off New Album)
16. Open Arms
17. Only The Young
18. (Another New Song Off New Album)
19. Wheel In The Sky
20. Stone In Love
21. Faithfully
22. Don't Stop Believin'

I would love to see that myself but solo tours like that don't fill the seats anymore, at least it didn't before COVID.

Depends on the venue....

I've seen Journey without any support acts at least 3 times (casinos and fairs). No problem filling seats.

Journey can fill any concert venue. They probably can't fill the big stadiums, but that's okay. They can sell out the smaller concert venues. They should really tour alone. They can sell 15,000 seats in a flash.
