Journey in new Resident Evil movie

In the new Resident Evil reboot, "Welcome to Racoon City", Donal Logue's police chief character had brief dialogue about how women love Journey and Perry's voice. Also, later on, while his car is under attack from swat teams and zombie hordes, he is listening to Any Way You Want It. I assume Perry's lawyers and Cain/Schon had to sign off on this. It's def. a far cry from the Sopranos finale.

Why can't Journey get one of their new songs in a movie? AWYWI was already in Candyshack.

Because Schon and Cain sold the rights to classic Journey songs years ago, there is no Journey management and there is only one new Journey song.

Cain wouldn't need to be involved for AWYWI.

Only the Young is in King Richard.

That sounded wrong and is probably true for some kings, but of course I am talking about the song and the movie.

Who wrote the song does not matter.

What matters is who owns the publishing rights. For example, the publishing rights could have been sold or given to Elmo partners during ROR and then split with Perry after TBF. That would mean Schon and Cain would have owned the rights to all classic Journey songs....and then sold them a few years ago. Don't know if that is what happened..but something like that....at the very least with the Escape, Frontiers, ROR, and maybe TBF albums....all Perry, Schon, Cain albums.
