Irrelevant appearance from the TV perspective, although I always watch DCRNYR since I was a kid. But to be in front of that crowd is cool.

Neal said on Instagram that they will play a medley of 3 songs, no lip-syncing. And responding to a question about Narada Neal said Deen is back and Narada is producing at home.

NY officials are considering canceling the NYE event in Times Square due to uptick in covid cases in NYC. Pretty good chance this doesn't happen.

Looks like it's still going on, with some restrictions like outdoor masks. Probably will impact attendance to some degree.

Pretty solid performance. Who was on drums?

Also I might have noticed Arnel lipping, but his voice cracked a bit during DSB so who knows. It’s not like these guys don’t mind using enhancements to their sound live.

Steve Toomey, Deen's drum tech.

I posted to Neal in one of his NYE threads on FB that I was impressed with the high-visibility gigs this year. His response was that's apparently what happens when he took over managing the band. I asked a follow-up about qprime but don't expect an answer.

With the high visibility, unfortunately, comes the lame controversy from those (see Andy Cohen) who still don't know Arnel's been in the band longer than Perry. It's too bad that's what the talk was after this performance.

Andy Cohen is an obnoxious asshole. I just wanted to get that off my chest.

When I first listened to this on my phone, it sounded pretty good.

But, when I plugged in my headphones, Arnel sounded like crap. The background vocals are hiding a lot of his issues. On DSB, IMO, it sounds like the real high notes are on tape...he sings them but they are in a lower key in harmony and hidden under the louder taped vocal. On DSB, his voice FAILS on the same repeated bits. They are able to cover it up for now, but Arnel is REALLY struggling..

Also, CNN has done this for YEARS...they all get drunk and think they are being funny but they really all look like asses. Whoever is allowing this should be fired and they should stop the drinking and being drunk on air before they get sued.

No doubt Cohen is a jerk. And Stern will let him get away with it because he doesn't like Perry or Journey. But I also wish NS would stop trying to defend the band anytime anyone says something bad. He needs to just ignore them. Getting into a public spat and calling someone like Cohen out does nothing. I've also stated previously, that I'm not even 100% sure it's Neal that is on his social media. I think the wifey is very heavily involved and could be the one getting defensive. Just my opinion, no facts to back that up at all.

If Arnel is struggling, does this mean The Freedom Tour will be Journey's last tour ever? Unless they can talk Perry into doing a farewell tour in 2023.....

A million times this. Standing up and arguing his point with your average talk show host could probably get someplace for Neal, but someone like Cohen, that is an argument that will go on for however long Cohen wants it to. He literally thrives off negative crap from everything I've seen, and his viewers eat it up. I've seen a bit of his regular show a couple times while over at my girlfriend's house and he just feeds of the most ludicrous crap.

I think it is pretty obvious at this point that Journey will continue on until Neal dies.

If they can hide Arnel's troubles, and people keep buying tickets, why would they stop? People have accused him of AutoTune, and I think there is more going on to help him. There is no real reason to stop because at this point, not many people care.

Yep, Cohen loves this stuff. Let's not forget he's the one that created and puts on TV shows like the Housewives and Below Deck franchise garbage. He knows what sells, and he's very good at maximizing controversy. Neal doesn't win in this scenario.

Speaking of which, NS's twitter is an absolute mess this week. He (or someone) keeps retweeting the clip from Howard Stern where he's interviewing Cohen about being drunk on CNN. I'm not sure that clip does what Neal thinks it does, but he's probably tweeted it out at least 5 times. Cohen basically tells anyone that doesn't like what he does on NYE to F off, and says CNN fully supports him.

Ya just gotta shake your head at this point.

Do you think it’s fake when Arnel hits that Somehere in the Niiiiiiight part on DSB? Specifically the Night word. It could be right ?

They might have to have Jon sing some songs from the first three albums to help Arnel rest his voice on the tour. Plus, have Deen and Jason sing some songs, too.
