2023 Tour

Postby Onestepper » Mon Oct 17, 2022 11:36 pm

Seems to be an extension of the last tour with Toto. Some smaller markets, it appears.
Group will be joined by Toto
One of the most legendary rock bands of all time, Journey, announces the continuation of their highly successful tour with the 50th Anniversary Celebration Freedom Tour 2023 featuring very special guest Toto on all dates. Journey, the Diamond-selling Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, will take the stage in 38 cities across North America with their catalog of global chart-topping hits, including “Don’t Stop Believin,” “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully,” “Lights” and more.

Presented by AEG Presents, Journey Freedom Tour 2023 begins February 4th in Allentown, PA – making stops in Austin, Montreal, Memphis and more – before wrapping April 25th at the brand new Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs, CA. The 2023 run includes rescheduled dates in Washington DC, Hartford, Toronto and Quebec that were postponed earlier this year due to COVID.

Well it might be a little more downplayed than the previous hype by Neal based on all the legal stuff, but I hope at least Rolie shows up at some point. He's been seemingly more active on social media and with his son's new band so perhaps he might be on board to play at least a few one-off dates. Its a shame the timing of the 50th is when it turned out to be with so many former members on the outs with the band now.
Rock on,

Any idea why the promotional stuff sent out for the tour has Perry’s voice on it and not Arnel’s? A buddy of mine shared the audio clip the concert promoter sent out and it’s clearly Perry. He’s not a Journey fan and knew it wasn’t Perry.

I guess they can do a "50th Anniversary Tour" in 2025? It being the anniversary of the first album.

I'm totally onboard for Toto opening for Journey again. But I really want to see a Journey and Santana tour with Rolie sitting in with both Journey and Santana, and Schon sitting in with Santana!

I know Neal has said that he wants to do shows, preferably stadium shows, with Journey, Santana & Toto. - I'm hoping for that, since the band is not coming to the NYC area at all this tour. (Yes, they played Long Island this year. But, Long Island & NYC are often considered different markets.) Hopefully, they left it off of the winter tour because NYC will get one of the big shows, later in the year.

Fingers crossed.

I know this won't happen, but this is the Journey 50th Anniversary Concert. Well, my dream, anyway.

The concert would have to start at 5 PM because it is long. First, the current lineup starts with 90 minutes of new Journey music featuring the albums with Arnel. Next, they would have a 30-Minute intermission followed by the Journey Through Time lineup where they perform music from the fusion rock Journey albums as well as deep cuts and Feeling that Way/Anytime and Just The Same Way. They could also perform songs from Arrival. They might end the set with Wheel in the Sky. After 90 minutes of that, another 30-minute intermission. Then the main event! The Escape lineup including Steve Perry! I told you it was my dream. Get ready for 90-minutes of the big hits and a few deep cuts that Perry loves. And they already did Wheel in the Sky so that frees up time for a different song in this set.

It won't happen, but it would be the greatest Journey concert ever if it did.

Did you see Journey on their 30th Anniversary tour when they were doing the An Evening With Journey shows?

That was probably my favorite Journey show that I ever saw in person in terms of the set list. They had that opening set of the Progressive Rock era.

Yes. I was there! That was awesome! But now I want to hear them with Gregg Rolie performing those songs!

You should have seen him at one of his solo shows. I saw one more than 10yrs ago. He performed all of those Journey songs plus Santana and solo. It was a great concert. It was at one of the free stages at the fair. We were in the front row. At the end he asked everybody to leave their seats and come as close to the stage as they wanted as he finished the last song. Gregg was early and stayed late talking to friends and family. He seems a very genuine and cool guy.

I bought a ticket to show in Buffalo NY and I was surprised that the prices were fairly reasonable compared to what a lot of other artists are charging now.
