Tough song to sing live, Arnel pulls it off. You can really pick up his accent though. Terrific backing vocals.

Interesting choice for a release. And with the inclusion of the intro to the next song it hints maybe the band is going to release the Lollapalooza set as a live album. Is that the best show from last year? Or maybe the energy was the best?

ok, turns out it is the Lollapalooza set being released as a full live album. Release date is Dec 9. So Marco gets to be on a Journey record.

If the next 15 months for Journey is as good as the last 15 months I’ll be REALLY happy. High profile events, lots of tour dates, new album, live blu-Ray….

Kinda crazy that this album is announced on the 45 year anniversary of Perry first performing with Journey during an encore in San Francisco.

Do I sense more autotune on Arnel's voice (like with the Japan release from a few years ago)?

I get it was Lollapalooza. But, why release a show from 2021, when we all know the band had a brief, funky lineup & more so, Arnel was really struggling vocally? - Look at all they sorted out in 2022! They got a more stable lineup (it seems), & Arnel got his hearing issues sorted out, resulting in MUCH BETTER performances.

P.S. - If they had to do the Lolla show, they should have gotten current Arnel to overdub the vocals.

Just watched the video and while Marco gets a fair amount of screen time, they did quite the job of avoiding Narada.

Yeah, at first I scratched my head at this choice as well since Arnel hadn't gotten his monitor issues sorted out yet and was struggling. However from a historical standpoint this is a unique snapshot of a once in a lifetime lineup for the band, including two drummers, playing a festival they hadn't ever played before. That part makes perfect sense for a release. Regardless it'll be great to have a Blu-ray copy of the show!
Rock on,

Is the show strictly going to be on CD? Strictly on DVD/Blu-ray? or a combination of the two?

Arnel pulls it off? He's anything but convincing here, there's autotune and the backing vocals are on tape.

But each to his/her own, I guess :)

Yeah, given the difficulty of the song I think he does. No one said it was perfect.

The problem with some of you is that you think a 54 year old guy should always sound exactly like what Perry sounded like in the studio. Ridiculous.

Sorry to disappoint you.

If you can’t play the song without help you shouldn’t be performing the song at all in the live setting.

I’ll take all the live Journey we can get. That being said I really hope for more with Perry.
Expanded Captured, Frontiers Tour and of course Raised in Radio. At this point it would appear
anything from that era won’t see that light of day for a long time or if ever.

Does this apply to singers that use teleprompters?

I guess it takes a lot of planning to do a huge 50th Anniversary Tour. So, perhaps it won't be until 2025. When it happens, they need to record it and release it as a new Live Box Set.

First CD covers Journey, Look into the Future, Next, Infinity and Evolution.
Second CD covers Departure, Escape, Frontiers, Raised on Radio and Trial By Fire.
Third CD covers Arrival, Generations, Revelation, Eclipse, and Freedom.

Journey's been using recorded backing vocals since the Perry days - especially on BGTY.

I don’t have an issue with singers using teleprompters or anything to help them remember lyrics. I do have an issue with artists charging big money for a live performance that isn’t truly live. I’d much rather see a mistake on a note than to have perfection. If I wanted perfection I’d go listen to the album or one of the “live” recordings where they doctored stuff in the studio.

I’m a big fan of KISS, but I won’t go see their never ending End of the Road tour because of the vocal help they started using prior to the tour. I won’t see Journey again because of tape gate.

The taped backing vocals are not the big issue. Arnel's awful performance is.

There is an issue when tribute bands sound better than the real thing.

Yeah. As someone who has seen/heard the Journey tribute band "Escape" in person at least 30 times (And loved their performances) I can say that I've never heard a Journey tribute band that comes even close to Journey for performances.

I said that no tribute band comes close to JOURNEY. Not that no tribute singer ever came close to Perry.

You’re correct. Journey is the best Journey tribute band out there.
