They shouldn’t have let Metallica’s management team go.

I’m sure Schon and Cain will mess this up some how.

I’m interested to know why this came about considering how gung-ho Neal has been about handling the band himself

One of the biggest missteps they've made in recent history.

I was wondering when someone was going to pick this up. I had checked here early this morning when I found out and I didn't see anything about this. I guess because of the lawsuit, they see the need for a 3rd party to see them through while that gets settled in or out of court.

I would like to know why they decided to do this as well. I have to wonder if Jonathan threatened to quit, or maybe Nightmare threatened to not give them the license if things didn't change. Or, maybe it is part of a settlement with Jonathan. Whatever, I doubt Neal did this willingly.

I know they have a tour with Toto planned for next year, but is that just early in the year?

Will Journey have another tour in the summer where they can celebrate the 50th anniversary? Perhaps have an "Evening with Journey" with no other bands. Then they can play all their material from the very start to the new material on Freedom and everything in between. Perhaps they needed a new manager to help them plan all of this out. I know it must be a lot of work to plan a big tour to celebrate 50 years!

I think they tried travelling down that "Evening with" road playing deep album cuts in about 2005. Went down like a lead balloon with most of the audience and a few gigs into the tour they were back to playing the same old hits only.

A big tour in 20,000 seat arenas is the wrong venue for that format. A concert like that with a lot of deeper cuts would be a better fit in smaller theaters.

Metallica announced their next tour with feature back to back nights in every city with no repeats on songs they did in the second concert from the songs they did in the first night. Journey should consider doing this. Can you picture Friday Night is Journey with Gregg Rolie performing a Captured set list, but instead of Dixie Highway they could do Of A Lifetime and I'm Gonna Leave You? And then on Saturday Night, they could have Jon and perform songs from Escape, Frontiers and so on and include new music from Freedom!

People can buy tickets to either concert or both. It will allow Arnel to rest his voice instead of doing all of this in one night.

What you're on proposing night #1 is essentially "Journey Through Time," which died on the vine from protests of other members... presumably Jon.

As a matter of public record, it was everybody except Jon that intervened and shut JTT down. The rest of Nightmare - including Perry and Herbie - voted to demote Neal (and Jon) in part because JTT merchandise was being copyrighted by Neal. The entire Ross/Smitty firing was initiated because of their (Ross, Smitty, Perry, Herbie, Nightmare attorney) opposition to JTT.

Neal and his wife have since re-written history and claimed Jon originally sided with the rest (Ross, Smitty, Perry, Herbie etc.). However, that contradicts the original lawsuit.

By siding with Neal and ousting Ross/Smitty, Neal called Cain "a brother." In hindsight, Cain siding with Neal was a fustian bargain. Nobody can work with the guy.
